Cryptoarmenians of Zile, Tokat il | ||||
"Zile had around itself some 250-260 villages. It is worth to mention that among those no Armenian villages were found. This is not to say that this area, which happened to be populated by Armenians for centuries, was deprived of its rural Armenian population. To the contrary, the majority of those villages, which were Armenian for centuries, were forced to convert to Islam, same way as Armenians of Zile itself. This islamized villagers were fanatical to the very edge. They had subjected the Armenians of Zile to the sorrowful distructions and devastations in November of 1895." Archag Alboyadjian. History of the Armenians in Tokat. pp. 584-585 Cairo (Egypt): The New Star Press. A Publication by the Armenian Educational Society of Tokat Inc., New York. |
