Gene's Timeline:
Home
Week 55 (2/2/03): Ack! Just found out that there was something wrong with the Adrenal test I sent in - need to do it again!! Gene had a good week at school. I let them know that he has been working on his states, so they are beginning to test the kids on the states' capitals and he has been doing very well.

Sunday: Gene was very good at church! He chose this time to go inside and sit in our little back corner (we have been sitting outside lately).  He wasn't upset when a lady was rather rude about his closing the door behind him (SHE wanted the door open(?!)) Anyway, he used his "quiet voice" most of the time, sang the songs and even tried to copy the words when the priest was saying the Eucharistic Prayer (he said he "was telling the priest the story!"), the Lord's Prayer, etc.  He walked up and down the aisle, shaking hands with people.  He got up once to stretch his legs and walk around a bit, used the bathroom - done quietly and stayed inside the whole time.  He was very proud of himself doing so well!  And this was a VERY long mass - we left a bit early - that was after a full hour!  There was a steady stream of parents taking their kids outside(!)  Gene went up in the plane with Gene and enjoyed it.  He just had a very good day all the way around!

Monday: Gene got lots of stars and a happy face today.
Tuesday:  Gene got stars on everything, a happy face and the teacher wrote "very good day"(!)
Wednesday: Gene got all stars again!
Thursday:  When I called to pick up Gene, one of the teachers said, "Oh good, then he can tell you what a good day he has had!" We both commented how well he has been doing lately. He got a big happy face.
Friday:   Gene got 2 stars for APE.
Saturday:  Gene got to swim with Gil (and the other young man) and he did very well.
Week 56 (2/9/03): I sent in Gene's 2nd Adrenal Test.  Gene got a test back which looked like a typical 5th grader's test on the states and their abbreviations and he got an A on it! He did better on it than I would have(!) :-)

Sunday: Gene was very good at church again this week! He chose to go inside again and sit in our little back corner.  He  used his "quiet voice" a lot of the time, sang songs and tried to copy the words to the prayers (he likes "telling the story" for the priest!).  He walked up and down the aisle, shaking hands with people and sat down in the real pews for a while.  He went outside once; it was really noisy inside, maybe it was bothering him.  When he went out, he made a point of letting me know that he said, "Excuse me" to a little girl who was near the door(!)  When he was ready, he went back inside(!)  He walked around a bit, used the bathroom, went up to get a better view of the flag - but was done pretty quietly.  He was very proud of himself doing so well!

Monday: Today is a holiday. Gene seemed a little out of sorts toward end of the day (so was Christopher -I think they were both tired!) I did the adrenal test again - 4 samples - Gene chose to do it himself and he did well with it.
Tuesday:  It was raining pretty hard today, so I was a little afraid that Gene might not do too well with it, but he did fine and had another good day at school.  I noticed that he got stars for all periods, except "walking the rocks" so I asked him about it and he replied that they didn't do the rocks because it was raining.  It was nice that he understood what I was asking, understood why they didn't do it  and was able to answer.
Wednesday: Gene had another good day at school.
Thursday:  Gene had an up and down day today. Teacher thought it was because his mouth was hurting; he also didn't eat a very big b'fast which sometimes is a problem, but he has been great on the bus...saying goodbye to everyone.
Friday:   Had another good day! Enjoyed V. Day.
Saturday:  Gene didn't have swimming today due to Pres Day.
Week 57 (2/16/03): I had meant to mention before but Gene has been very good about bringing his dishes to the sink for me when he is done eating...and I have never asked him to do that :-)

Sunday: Gene was good at church again this week. He seems to try to step out of his comfort zone a bit more each week.  He did pretty much the same things, but this time he tried sitting in the pews a bit longer than last week.  He picked the kids that he especially wanted to shake hands with.

Monday: Today is another holiday.
  Tuesday
Wednesday: Gene had another good day at school.  He knows all of the states, caps, abbrev, mottos..and some flags -- he's very consistent when I test him.
Thursday:  Gene's teacher told me he had a very good day today.  He was very good at BGC too -- he did a very difficult USA puzzle by himself and did some drawing.  He made a point of saying goodbye to a little girl that was with Kyle when we left.  On the way home, he heard Christopher say something about having a scratch - he asked him how he got the scratch ("where did you get the scratch?" or something).  Then he noticed something about Christopher and said, "What's the matter?" no answer "What is the matter, Christopher, are you sad?"
  Friday:   Had another good day!
Saturday:  Gene did his swimming today and did fine.  I needed to take all the kids to my gym for the self-defense class, and I was so surprised that when I was called at the end, it wasn't for Gene, it was for Christopher - just he and Rebecca not sharing and he was mopey - no big deal.  But Gene had been sitting quietly drawing so nicely.  At the end when one of the workers came in, he asked her her name and then introduced himself and me and Christopher. It was very cute.
Week 58 (2/23/03): This starts spring off-track - Erin will be here for the next month.

Sunday: Gene was good at church again this week. Christopher was sitting with us, and that didn't seem to bother him.  He did very well singing the songs, went outside when he needed to and a couple of times when he started to feel like he needed to leave, he was willing to stay. Gene did better than normal at sharing at lunch today.

Monday: Good Day.
  Tuesday:  "Wonderful Day"
Wednesday: Last day of quarter - Good Day.
Thursday:  Day off
Friday:   1st day of intersession; Gene seemed to do fine.  It was cute; one of the kids asked me a question while my hands were full, I was about to drop something from my left hand, so I stuffed the piece of bread that was in my right hand in my mouth to free my right hand to help out.  I was passing Gene as I was asked for the 2nd time the question.  I figured, "Eh, I'll just answer, Gene's not going to care that I have a big blop of bread in my mouth when I answer.  Haha...Gene immediately said, "Mom!" (in this shocked tone), "You aren't supposed to talk with your mouth full!" :-)
