Gene's Timeline:
Home
Week 91 (10/12/03):
Week 92 (10/19/03):
Sunday: Birthday Party.  Gene did fine.  Mom said that she accidentally asked him if he wanted a bun for his hamburger, and he responded that he wasn't supposed to eat that.  She was very impressed that he knows what he can and can't eat and sticks to it.
Wednesday:
Gene's soccer has commented several times during the season how well Gene is doing and how much improved he is since he was his coach 2 yrs ago.  That he is cognizant as to what is happening; he takes advantage of opportunities when the ball is near him and he is independently playing.
Saturday
:  Gene's last soccer game.  Unfortunately we had to leave early before he had a chance to score, but his swimming started this week & I didn't want him to be late.
Week 93 (10/26/03): This week was a bit tough since school was closed for the whole week and everyone was supposed to stay indoors due to the smoke (from the nearby fires), but the kids did fine!
Sunday: We took the kids with us to our dance performance in Poway which was right next to the wildfires that were going (which we didn't really "know" at the time!).  Gene sat in the pews (for part of the mass) for the first time in a long time!!
Friday
:  We met with Gene's new DAN doctor, "Dr. Bob."  Gene was great all the way during the prepping and at the office.  Then when it was time to go in, he got scared and didn't want to go :-)  Anyway, it was okay, not great ... My consultation afterward went very well.  He is more of a "clinical" style doctor vs research-based, which is okay -- maybe good since I do tons of research :-), but we did come up with different opinions on several things for that reason.  We are both flexible and I feel sure it will work fine.  He brought up some good points such as getting Gene back on the CalDMag, CoQ10 and some tests we haven't done before.  We came up with a 3 month plan, so I think we got a lot accomplished in the short amount of time there.
Saturday:  Gene's swimming lesson went VERY well.  The director commented how well he was doing and he began rotary breathing with his front stroke!
Week 94 (11/2/03): Gene had a good week at school.
Sunday: Gene went straight to the pews to sit down (not sitting on the floor in the back anymore!) He is working hard on whispering in church, saying the prayers & hymns and sitting nicely / still.  Sitting in the pews is really a big step. (Then he slapped Rebecca when it was time to shake her hand!  :( .. okay, well, there are still things to work on!)  We went to Auntie Tessie's "viewing" -- I had completely briefed Rebecca for the whole event, but felt that Gene & Christopher would not really understand what was going on, so I planned on just keeping them away from the casket.  "... best laid plans of mice and men..." Gene made a bee-line for the casket and wanted to know what was wrong with her and was she okay; I took him away to explain, but once he was distracted, he didn't seem interested anymore. We went to the family's house afterward, and he sat with the other kids and watched "Sound of Music" together. Anyway, with some minor things, he actually did better than I expected during the day.
Monday: First day back to school after the fires.  Gene had a very good day; unfortunately it rained so we couldn't go to the airport (which is what he was "working for").
Tuesday: Gene did his hw without any resistance.
Wednesday:
Thursday:
Friday:  Last day of school for 3 wks during off track.  Will begin intersession next week.

Saturday: Gene had another great swimming lesson!  He swam 1/2 a lap using rotary breathing without stopping.  He also had a good hb riding lesson - more alert and attentive.  (not so good at Rebecca's game, though)
