Rebecca's Angelfish /Riptide Soccer Teams: |
Rebecca joined AYSO U9 (under 9 yrs) to start in August 2003. This is up 2 levels from last year - she skipped to be in a division closer to her ability and age of her classmates. She is on the Angelfish team. See website for standings, pics, et al (U09G-01/ ANGELFISH) |

Rebecca has been improving each game! In her 1st game, she literally exhausted herself running back & forth across the huge fields they play on in this division. The teams have no choice but to play positions now! Rebecca has been having a hard time adjusting to that! But in the 2nd game, she was awarded Most Improved. The 3rd game was hard on everyone; 2 girls didn't make it to the game, so there were no substitutions for the entire game!! |
In the 4th game, things started to sink in! She held her position much better (she stayed on the offensive 1/2, but still seemed to stray a bit across the right-left quadrants) She had a lot more energy to do "her" job and got the 1st 2 goals of the game! Unfortunately, the 2nd goal was taken away. She worked hard the whole game and was awarded MVP Offensive Player and Most Improved!! So far the team has won every game and seems to be ranked #1. There is only one other team that has won all games and they are going head to head at the end of the season. |
9/27/03: This was their 5th game against the #3 team (which also has one of Rebecca's friends on it). Rebecca got the 1st goal of the game again and made some "excellent passes" (per her coach). She is feeling more confident now; her teammates are trusting her & she is trusting them; it is great to watch. They won 4-0. See pix below. |

10/4/03: This was their 6th game against the (now) #3 team. Rebecca got the 1st goal of the game again (the 3rd game in a row!) and was named Offensive MVP & "also did well on defense" (per her coach). It was an upsetting game, though, because the ref's continued to call offsides on our team after they said they would be very lenient on that - several were goals taken away and were very picky. Unfortunately one of the team's advantages is their fast breaks and defense getting the ball to forwards who are holding their positions. The other team played a "swarm" game and stayed, as a team, at our goal so that practically whenever our forwards got the ball they were automatically offsides. We won anyway 3-2, though. |
10/25/03: This was the 1st game to establish the seeding of the playoffs. They played the #1 team and won! Yea! |
11/8/03: This was their 2nd game to establish the seeding of the playoffs. The team had some difficulty getting going & actually was behind 1-2 for a while. Rebecca made the goal that evened things up and then later in the game made a GREAT assist for a goal. It was a perfect cross to her teammate -- really was nice to see! They ended up winning 5-2 |
10/15/03: This was the last game of the season. Rebecca could only play half the game because she had to get to 1st Communion class; however, she played well & was Most Improved again. |
11/15/03: This was the Quarter Finals. Rebecca was awarded MVP-Offense. They won 7-1. |
11/22/03: This day they played both the Semi-Finals and Finals. They won the Semi-Final 5-0 in which Rebecca scored 1 goal. They also won the Finals 3-0, 2 goals of which Rebecca scored!! So the Angelfish are the U9 Division Champions!!! A professional photographer was on site taking pix during the game; Rebecca's coach was kind enough to pick out a couple of Rebecca for us; see below. The team will be presented with their trophies at a special Awards Ceremony on 12/9. Rebecca was chosen for an All-Stars team and will play 2 games. She will also be playing in a 3 on 3 Tournament on 12/20 (see top of page for info) which will host teams from the Western U.S. Region. |
12/9/03: Awards Presentation - The Angelfish walked away with the U9 Championship Trophies!! See pix below: |
