Rebecca's Soccer:
Rebecca joined AYSO U6 (under 6 yrs) in August 2001 and was placed on the Ladybugs team.  She picked up quite quickly and after she learned that it was okay to "steal" from the other team...she was effectively playing both offense and defense very well.  Due to her speed, she was quickly scoring several goals per game and earned the first awarded Most Valuable Player of the Game honor.  Unfortunately for her, though, one of the cornerstones of AYSO is that "everyone plays" and they try to give everyone an equal shot at getting goals, etc.  This meant that Rebecca was spending more and more time as goalie or out of the game, so that seemed to dishearten her a bit -- she told me once that she was afraid to score because that meant that he would be taken out...:-(

Anyway she enjoyed the experience and is anxious to get going again this year.
Rebecca participated in the YMCA's Summer PeeWee Sports Day Camp.  They spent one day on each of the sports: Soccer, Basketball, Football, T-ball, Track.  This was her first experience with Soccer and for that matter any of the sports.  She especially enjoyed Soccer so we signed her up for AYSO.
2001:
Rebecca joined AYSO U7 (under 7 yrs) in August 2002 and was placed on the Rosebuds team.  She has been playing a lot of defense primarily because that is where she has seen a need

9/28/02: See pix above from this game (Mouse over the pic for more info). We were running late to the game, but as soon as she got there, she was put in.  Her first play in, she stole the ball and ran it all the way down the field for a goal. The second play was just like the first with another goal.  The rest of the game she was playing defender(!)  But she did some nice plays of getting the ball down the field and passing to teammates.  A very good game.

11/16/02: The last game of the season...Rebecca was bummed because last Sat. the game was rained out, so she was bound and determined to make up for it.  She said she was going to make 2 goals in the first quarter!  Well, when the game was ready to start, Rebecca was sitting by the sidelines between tears and anger.  She was disappointed because she had been asked to sit out the first quarter as the other team was short a person....aaack!  Anyway, she made up for it in the rest of the game. She made one goal in both 2nd and 3rd qtrs and 2 in the last quarter.  We are looking at having her skip to U9 league next year since 3 of her classmates are in U9 (she started school early so most of her classmates are 1 yr older than her).

See pix below for the Year End Party and Awards.
2002:
9/28/02: Great play! Rebecca made a fast break and ran the ball, with a teammate, all the way to the goal.  But when she passed it to her teammate, she missed the goal.
