Title: Empty
Rating: G
Characters/Pairings: Toph, Sokka, (Aang, Katara)
Warnings: Spoilers for "Sokka's Master"
Toph sprawls on the ground, comfortable with the dirt at her back and the sun heating her face - yet, she feels strangely empty in a way that Katara's pathetic attempts at wisecracking(attempts at replacing him - foolish because Toph knows that nothing could replace him) just doesn't(can't) fill.
She understands why Sokka wants(needs) a master, but she wishes he could just find what he needed with them(her), the band of misfits trying to save the world. She can't comprehend why he doesn't feel up to par with them when everything he does, everything he is is what makes them.
At the very edge of her vision she sees footfalls, sure and infused with a certain grace in a way that she doesn't recognize - she nearly opens her mouth to cry out a warning about an intruder, but there's something familiar in what she sees, and she sits upright in surprise(relief).
"Sokka's coming!"
