A/N: Thanks to my computer crashing before I could post last night, I
had to rewrite this part. For those of you who want it, there is no
gratuitous sex in this part. I'm still working out where to put that
into my story. But, I promise it will be there. Just give me time.
Anyway, we start to see the case come together in this piece.

Part 12

Catherine walked back into the living room, where Sara was aimlessly
flipping through the channels. Catherine returned to the couch, this
time maneuvering her position so that she was lying down, with her
head in Sara's lap. Catherine looked up at Sara and said, "We have to
work in a couple of hours."

Sara twirled her fingers in Catherine's hair and replied, "Yeah, I
know." Sara was enjoying the time alone with Catherine before they
had to go to work.

Catherine looked up at her, and with her sexiest voice asked, "So
what should we do until then?" Catherine had a huge grin on her face
and a wild look in her eyes.

Sara leaned down and kissed Catherine. "You know what I would like?"
Sara asked as she kissed Catherine again. "I would like," another
kiss, "to take you upstairs," one more kiss, "and fall asleep with
you in my arms." Sara kissed Catherine one last time before returning
to a more comfortable sitting position.

Catherine pouted, "Just sleep?" damn, but she looks sexy when she
pouts, Sara thought.

"Yeah, just sleep. Then I want to wake up with you still in my arms."
Sara told her as she gently helped Catherine up off the couch and led
her upstairs. She could see the disappointment on Catherine's face,
but this was something she really wanted and hoped that Catherine
would understand.

The pair fell asleep curled into each other on Catherine's bed. And,
just as Sara had wanted, they woke up that way. Sara felt safe in
Catherine's arms. It was a place where there were no expectations of
her. A place full of peace and security. A place Sara wanted to be
forever. But now they had to go to work.

Sara pulled Catherine over to her before leaving the house. "Thanks
for sleeping with me," she said as she leaned down to kiss Catherine.

"Anytime," Catherine replied. She lowered her voice and whispered
seductively to Sara, "Anytime you want to come to bed with me, to
sleep or not. Anytime is fine with me."

In response, Sara kissed Catherine deep and slow. She let her hands
wander over Catherine's curves and down to her ass. She gave
Catherine's ass a quick squeeze before pulling apart and
whispering, "I'll take you up on that offer sometime."

Catherine stood next to the door, her heart racing and her lips
tingling from the kiss she had just shared with Sara. Man, that girl
has a talented tongue, she thought to herself. She kisses me like
that, and then expects me to go to work like nothing has changed. Oh,
man am I in trouble.

They drove to work separately, not wanting to start any rumors just
yet. They still hadn't figured out how they were going to handle
things at work. They didn't want to tell people just yet, but they
did work with a bunch of investigators, so someone was bound to
figure it out.

Catherine drove silently into work. She was lost in her own thoughts.
How could I not have figured this out sooner? Why did I have to wait
so long before I made my move. Had I known it would be so fantastic,
I would have moved in on her when I first saw her. Should've known. I
am an investigator. I get paid to notice things. And she's such a
good kisser. I almost didn't let her out the door after that last
one. Man, a whole shift, if not longer, before I can show her what
that did to me. Okay, concentrate on work now. Don't think about her.
Don't think about her. Or her lips. Or her hands. Dammit, Catherine
quit acting like a teenager. Focus. You're at work now. Focus. Just
go in there like nothing happened. Concentrate on work, and you can
play later. That's it.

Sara had cranked the volume on her stereo trying to drown out her own
thoughts. It wasn't really working. What did you kiss her for? Now
you have to wait all night before you touch her like that again.
Dammit, that was stupid Sara. If she would have asked me, I would've
taken right there. The hell with work. I want her. Now I have to go
to work and be close to her, without being close. Ah, the
frustration. Work. Concentrate on work. Try not to let it get to you.
Besides, we have a case to solve. Think about the case. With that
last thought, Sara got out of her car and headed into work.

Sara headed straight for the break room, hoping that Greg had brewed
a pot of his hundred-dollar coffee. Ah, there it was. Nick was
sitting at the table reading the sports page out of one of the many
newspapers in the break room. Sara sat down at the table with her cup
of coffee. From where she sat, she could see Catherine walking down
the hall, her back to Sara, and into Grissom's office. Damn, she has
one fine ass.

"Sara?" Nick questioned, startling Sara out of her thoughts and back
to work.

"Yeah?"

"You okay? You kind of spaced out there. Everything all right?" Nick
asked, looking genuinely concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Sara quickly recovered. "I was just thinking about
this case Catherine and I are working on. Hey, you got a minute? I'd
like to test a theory."

"Yeah sure. As long as your theory doesn't involve pickles, pigs in
blankets, or fungus," Nick said jokingly, remembering some of the
weirder experiments that happened in this building. He knew that Sara
had only recently begun eating meat again and that Greg still kept an
anti-fungal spray in his locker.

"No, no nothing like that. Basically I just need someone to listen to
a theory. But it has to be a guy." Sara told him, chuckling just a
little at his reference to the common experiments Grissom often
performed.

"Why a guy?" Nick asked.

"You'll see. So our vic was recently divorced and had moved into her
own place. The son, who's a college freshman at the U, took dad's
side in the divorce. He's been heard yelling at is mom before about
the divorce. Now, mom lives in her place and decides to get a
roommate. She tells the son it's to help pay the rent. The roommate
is actually our vic's new girlfriend. But then the girlfriend also
starts dating the son."

"Sounds interesting," was all Nick had to say.

"Yeah. Well, somehow, I'm thinking mom told him, the son finds out
that mom's roommate is also her lover. I was thinking that maybe the
son didn't want to hear this. I mean, we know that he has been very
verbal with his mother. And we know, because he decked Catherine,
that he can be violent. I think he has something to hide, cause he
took off. As a guy, what would you think if your mom suddenly told
you she was gay, and that she was dating your girlfriend?"

"Well, I have to say I'd be pretty pissed. I mean, you know me, and I
wouldn't hurt my mom, but I'd probably avoid her for a very long
time. But if your guy's violent and verbal, he's probably a pretty
good suspect."

"Thanks Nick," Sara said as she finished off her coffee and headed
out the door.

"Anytime," Nick said.

Sara headed down the hall to Grissom's office, her face a little red
from Nick's parting words. She had not been able to forget what
Catherine had said this morning. Anytime. Sara looked in Grissom's
office and noticed that Catherine was gone.

"Got a sec?" She asked him.

"Yeah. What do you need?" Grissom looked up from his paperwork and
asked her.

"Just wondering what dayshift was able to come up with for us."

"Ah. Well, the abusive girlfriend's prints were all over the son's
apartment. Including on a few knives. Greg is testing the knives
right now for any hint of blood and DNA. The son is sitting in
interview with Catherine. Brass asked the arresting officer to `lose'
paperwork on him for a little while so we could talk to him. Brass
thinks he's a flight risk. Brass also went out a little bit ago to
find the girlfriend, apparently she's back in town."

"Thanks, Gris." Sara said as she headed back out the door. She wanted
to check on Catherine and the son before finding out what Greg had
for her.

Sara walked down to the interview rooms, and was about to open the
door to speak with Catherine when she heard her name being called.
She turned around to find Brass heading into another interview room
with a cuffed, and obviously pissed, young lady.

"Brass?"

"Hey, I brought you a present," Brass said with a smirk. "One abusive
girlfriend who has been staying off the strip at a sleazy dive for
about seven days now. Signed in using her own name and everything."

"So that makes you Eliza, right?" Sara asked the girl.

"Yeah."

"What are you doing back in Vegas?"

"Nothing."

"Wow, you talk a lot. Brass, did you give her the speech," Sara said,
referring to Eliza's Miranda warnings.

"Yeah. But she says she doesn't want a lawyer, she didn't do anything
wrong." Brass told her.

"That's right. Whatever happened to Jessie I had nothing to do with.
You should be talking to her family right now. They're the screwed up
ones."

"Oh, I see. So you sleep around with mother and son and they're the
ones that are screwed up."

"That's right. I mean, yeah I had some family fun, and everything,
but it's not like I was mean to Jessie." Eliza said with a smirk.

Brass took over, "You've been arrested three times for domestic
battery. That's not mean?"

"Read your files man. I didn't hurt Jessie, I hurt Jonathan. But only
after he hit me around a few times."

"All right then," Sara said. "If you didn't hurt her, then who did?
We know she's been abused in the past."

"You guys shouldn't be wasting your time with me. Like I said, talk
to her family. Jonathan likes to yell a lot, but he never hurt her
either. Scott, on the other hand, had quite a nasty streak.
Everything was going fine until Jessie said she wanted a divorce.
Then he lost it. Didn't want to lose his image I guess."

"So what do you know about Jessie death then?" Sara asked.

"Your buddy here," Eliza said indicating Brass, "tells me she's been
murdered. I'm not surprised. That family has some serious problems.
No one ever bothered to tell Jonathan when his parents divorced that
his dad was actually gay. Or that his mother was bisexual, or at
least experimental. And then Mom goes and tells Jonathan, years after
the divorce. And they expect him to just be able to adjust? Yeah
right."

"So Jessica did tell Jonathan about her. And about you and her." Sara
stated.

"Yeah she did. She had wanted to tell him a long time ago, but his
dad convinced Jessie that it wasn't a good idea. Jonathan kept
throwing fits, like a child, about the divorce and how he thought his
mom was treating his dad badly, and blah, blah, blah. He couldn't get
over it. Then she decided to tell him that not only was she seeing
someone, a woman, but that it was me. At least that shut him up. Next
thing I know, he's gone."

"Did she tell him about his dad?"

"Not then. I mean, I don't know if she told him or not, because after
that I left to try to find Jonathan. I never went back to talk with
Jessie. I found Jonathan at a campus bar, told the bouncer he was
underage and they tossed him. So I pick him up off the ground and
take him home. He drinks more there, but at least he was at home, you
know? And he finally passes out and I go back to my hotel. IF Jessie
told him about his dad, than it was after he woke up and I was
already gone."

"Did you try to talk to him anytime after you left his place?"

"No. I gave him a few days to cool off. I mean he did take the news
pretty hard, and I didn't want to upset him any further. I actually
came back to Vegas because I wanted to be with him. So I figured,
give him some time, he'll come around. I tried calling a few times,
but he didn't answer. When I tried calling Jessie to see if she had
heard from him, she didn't answer either."

Sara left Brass in the room with Eliza and went back down the hall to
talk with Catherine. Funny things were going in with this family and
it was time to bring in Scott.
