Step 6 -  Program Maintenance

 

The purpose of program maintenance is to ensure current programs are operating error free, efficiently, and effectively.

  1. This is the final step in the programming development process.
  2. It ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of any computer program.

  

  

Program maintenance activities fall into two categories:

  1. Operations concern activities:
    1. (1) Locating and correcting operational errors.
    2. (2) Making programs easier to use.
    3. (3) Standardizing software.
        
  2. Changing Needs activities:
    1. (1) Programs may need to be modified over time.
    2. (2) New tax laws may come into effect.
    3. (3) There may be new information needs.
    4. (4) There may be new company policies.
