What is web Authoring?

  1. A Web Site is an interactive multimedia form of communication.
  2. Creating a Web site on the Internet is called Web Authoring.
  3. Corporations use Web sites to reach new customers and promote their products.
  4. Individuals can also create their own personal Web sites on the Internet.
  5. Creating a Web site involves:
    1. Web site design
    2. Creation of a web page that displays the Web site's content.

 

 

Web Site Design Process

  1. Start with determining overall content to be communicated.
  2. Break down content into a series of related pieces of information.
  3. Represent overall site design in a graphical map with blocks representing pieces of information.
  4. Design Home Page:
    1. Represents the opening page of the presentation.
    2. Should present overall content of presentation
    3. Should have links to pages with specific pieces of information
    4. May include sound, video, and animation to enhance interest and interactivity.

   

 

Creating Web Pages

  1. Web pages on a Web site are displayed using HTML documents.
  2. Text editors can be used to to create web pages with HTML code.
  3. Word processing packages can also be used to create web pages, even without knowledge of HTML code.
  4. Special web-authoring software, called Web or HTML editors,  can be used to create sophisticated web pages. Web-authoring software:
    1. Provide support for Web site design and HTML coding.
    2. Widely used to create sophisticated commercial sites.
