about | online publications | information for visitors | links

Heyward Reserve Library was set up in 1996, at the Centre for Social Policy Studies(CSPS), near the "N Block", Legon campus at University of Ghana.

The library is named in honour of E. J. R. Heyward, former Senior Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF; his private library was later presented by UNICEF to CSPS, and formed the basis of the growing collection now held by the library. The Heyward Reserve Library acts as the documentation centre for the Centre for Social Policy Studies, particularly research reports and policy briefings. Dissertations and theses by postgraduate students in the sociology department at the University of Ghana, Legon, are also held in the Library. The aim of this website is to make available online as much of the materials held as is practically possible and within copyright restrictions. We see this as being a valuable resource for any persons, groups or organisations who are seeking research and policy information on social affairs within Ghana and, more generally, Africa, eg:

  • social workers,
  • social policy reserachers,
  • social policy makers and their advisors,
  • healthworkers, nutritionists, etc,
  • students.

Online Publications
