Easter

During Easter my bulletin board usually says, "Egg-stra special children," or "These kids are egg-stra special." I decorate with either the children's pictures or names on different colored eggs.

Math:
count plastic eggs
sort plastic eggs
list and count all the ways to cook eggs (scrambled, poached, hard-boiled, etc.)
graph the way the students prefer their eggs cooked.
graph the different colored eggs in a basket

Language Arts:
We usually read the story of Peter Rabbit.
Then we:
name the characters
sequence story events
discuss cause and effect
discuss rules and how following them keeps us safe

Make a class book using these positional words:
A bunny hops...
under the fence,
between the birds,
in the can/over the flowers,
beside the cat,
on the chair,
into bed, etc.

Easter Eggs
On Easter morning the sun comes up,
Round and yellow as a buttercup.
The sun is shining, the air is still,
And the Easter bunny hops over the hill.
Here's my basket, Let's go see
If the bunny left Easter eggs for me.
Here is a yellow one, yellow as the sun.
I'll put it in my basket. That makes one.
Here is a green one, right by my shoe.
I'll put it in my basket. That makes two.
Here is a purple one, hidden carefully.
I'll put it in my basket. That makes three.
Here is a red one-Easter eggs galore!
I'll put it in my basket. That makes four.
Here is a blue one, blue as the sky.
I'll put it in my basket. That makes five.
My basket is full now. Let's go home.
I'd like to sit down and give you some.
