The Alaunia was launched on February 7, 1925, completed in July and made her maiden voyage on July 24, 1925 from Liverpool to Montreal via Quebec. In 1926 she moved to the London-Southampton-Quebec-Montreal service. On August 24, 1939 the Alaunia was fitted out as an armed merchant cruiser, and during 1941 she served as troop transport. On December 8, 1944 she was sold to the British Admiralty. Conversion to repair ship commenced, which took until August 1945. She was renamed HMS Alaunia and was stationed at Devonport. In September 1957 she was sold to Hughes, Bolckow, Blyth to be broken up.
