Final game of the season Well as you can tell the season ended for Vityaz without a championship. The team lost to MC MVD Tver 3 games to 1. Markov did not participate in the finals due to an injury he suffered in Game 5 of the semifinal matchup with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (he was hit in the face with a puck late in the third period). I wish all the best to Markov and a speedy recovery. There will be no more updates for the summer...unless there's breaking news to report. Have a great summer everyone and I'm hoping there will be an NHL season in the fall. If not, I will be here and continue to bring you Markov coverage for whatever league he plays in. Vityaz advances to the finals Danny Markov and Vityaz Chekhov have advanced to the final round of the playoffs. The first round matchup with Gazovik Tyumen proved to be easy, with Vityaz winning the series 3-0. Mechel Chelyabinsk would be Vityaz' next opponent in the playoffs. The first game of the quarters gave the team a scare, they lost 3-4. But the team would bounce back and win that series 3-1. In the semifinal matchup with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, all looked like a sweep of the series for Vityaz. and won the series 3-2. Their next opponent will be MC HVD Tver for the championship. So good luck in the finals! It's playoff time for Markov and Vityaz The regular season has ended for Vityaz and they have secured the 4th position in the West Division. The team now looks forward to a quarter round match with Gazovik Tyumen. The series will be a best of five. Markov did not play in the final two games for the team. He is expected to be rested and ready in the playoffs. He ends the regular season with 26 GP, 5 G, 7A, 16P, + 7. Markov has a big night for Vityaz Danny Markov's effort on Tuesday ended with a three point night for him and a win for Vityaz. After going down 0-1 in the first period to HC Lipetsk, the team rallied back to win in a convincing fashion. Markov's first goal at 9:18 of the second tied the game 1-1. His next goal, which would prove to be the game winner, was notched at the 8:49 mark of the third. Both Markov goals were assisted by former Flyer teammate, Alexei Zhamnov. Danny added to his night with an assist on the final Vityaz goal by Oleg Voshenikin. Vityaz won the game over HC Lipetsk by a final score of 5-1. The unthinkable has happened - NHL cancels the 2004-05 season The National Hockey League announced today that, because a new collective bargaining agreement has not been realized, it no longer is practical to conduct an abbreviated 2004-05 season. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman issued the following statement: "Every professional sports League owes its very existence to its fans. Everyone associated with the National Hockey League owes our fans an apology for being unable to accomplish what is necessary for our game and our fans. We are truly sorry.""Every professional sports League owes its very existence to its fans. Everyone associated with the National Hockey League owes our fans an apology for being unable to accomplish what is necessary for our game and our fans. We are truly sorry." Markov improving for Vityaz Danny Markov scored his first goal of the season on December 24, 2004. This also marked the first point Markov had with his new club, Vityaz Chekhov. Following up his performance two games later, on Dec. 28 Markov assisted on a goal by Alexei Zhamnov. The new year started out fine for Markov. On January 8, he notched his second goal of the year. He now has 2 goals, 1 assist and 10 PIM in 12 games for Vityaz. Danny Markov recovering - Updated! Danny Markov was released from the hospital last week. He had been sick with a case of pneumonia. While he is out now and practicing with the team, Markov still missed this past weekend's games against Moscow. Markov did play at the farewell game of Igor Larionov last night. Though as expected, he didn't log in many minutes. Team Russia beat Team World by a score of 6:5. Markov hospitalized According to Rambler.ru, Danny Markov has been hospitalized with a cold.
