Location

Situated in the southern regions of India is the state of Karnataka and Dakshina Kannada is one of its districts. Mangalore is the District Headquarters.
Map showing Mangalore Once upon a time Dakshina Kannada was a vast district with 8 Taluks. In August 1997 it was split into two. Three Taluks were removed and made into a separate Udupi District. Mangalore, named after the guardian deity of the city Mangaladevi, is located on the backwaters of Netravathi and Gurpur rivers. The coastal beauty of the place has to be seen to be believed. History of DKPNA

DKPNA was started as Mangalore Philatelic Club in 1975. The Founder President of the Club was Dr. K.S. Prabhakar Rao. The main objective of the club was to provide education to the young and old through postal stamps. Dr. K.S. Prabhakar Rao was succeeded by Sri. S Narayan Rao in 1981 and Sri. Pailoor Laxminarayan Rao in 1983. The present President of the Association is Shri. M.K. Krishnayya.

In 1992, the Club was renamed Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatic Association covering the districts of Mangalore and Udupi.

  • Organized Philatelic Exhibitions for the youth in 1975, 1977 and 1979.
  • Philatelic Exhibition in connection with the International Year of the Child 1979.
  • Philatelic Exhibition in 1981 in connection with the Bharath Seva Dal Rally.
  • A district level Exhibition - Dakapex 84. Special cover and cancellation were provided by the Post and Telegraph Department.
  • A district level Exhibition - Dakapex 95. Special cover and cancellation were provided by the P & T Department.
  • Philatelic Exhibition in 1992 at Corporation Bank Head Office in Mangalore.
  • Youth Philatelic Exhibition in 1997 in association with the Udupi Philatelic and Numismatic Association.
  • Small Exhibitions held in connection with Rotary District Conference, Lions Club District Conference and 75th anniversary of Rotary International.
