My Barbie Makeovers-Page Uno
This was a pretty simple doll to make over. She's a cheap Barbie from the store and I grabbed the Lion there also.  I just puffed her hair up using a strong hairspray. Her lips were origionally purple, but I painted them a more "earthy" shade. The skirt is a wrap style skirt that ties on the side. The top is strapless, and then to complete the look, I made the sash, which was perfect because the print was a good scale for Barbie.

I loved making this doll!! Origionally she had a short black ponytail and was actually rather plain.  But I did away with that look and gave her these fab braids!!  It was alot of fun to see this doll come together!!  This is one of the few times I made jewelry (the earrings) where it actually works!!!  The ribbon on her top was white so I had to paint it yellow. Her shoes were also white and needed to be painted using toothpicks.  The material for the pants is an African print that I found at Jo Anns Fabrics. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect. The print is exactly the right size for lil' Barbie. Everything is handmade.  This doll was published for competition in "Barbie Bazaar" magazine...She didn't win in her catagory (daywear) , but she should have, and thats not my bias either!!!
This doll also appeared in "Barbie Bazaar" in the eveninwear catagory.  But she did not deserve to win as there was some amazing competition!  This is a doll I got out of the Goodwill bin. I brought her home and touched up her face a bit. Then I made her the dress and coat using rich velvets. The handbag is also handmade.  The earrings are small women's earrings. I gave her a beautiful upsweep to finish this regal ensemble.
