MARTIN GLOSS-born in Germany on___died____married Sarah McClain,I found the following ship info. at the Historical Society in Punxsutawney in a book. Martin Gloss immigrated to America on the ship "Ranier" on September 26, 1749. The ship was from Hanau, Wirtenburg, Darmstadt and Eisenberg. I have reason to believe this was him until I can prove otherwise. Etta May Barnett was the daughter of Daniel & Mary (Stanford) Barnett of Clarion co. other children of Daniel & Mary were: James; Calvin O.; Laura B.; Carrie E.; Ida Alice; Cora E. Anne Francis Aggers,, was the daughter of John and Sadie A. (Miller) Aggers Sadie (Miller) was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah K. (Torrence) Miller, Sarah was born 09/26/1853. Sadie and John Aggers were married on 12/25/1877. Sadie d. 9/13/1913, John d. 07/31/1914, both are buried in Bethel Cemetery, Bethel Park., Allegheny Co. Anne Frances (Aggers) Gloss- was the grand daughter of: Henry Aggers, born 1816 in Hanover, Germany, d. 1852 buried in Bethel Park, PA., married Hanna Temperwolf, b. 1816, in Holland, d. 1880, son John was born in 1845 and died July 13, 1914. John was 7 yrs old when Henry died.. Henry had brothers and sisters, Two brothers spelled Aggers, Eggers. One lived in Kane the other in White Salmon, Washington and had a wife name Doris. owner of Overlook Fruit farm. CHILDREN OF HENRY & HANNA: William; Mathilda: Frederick; Alexander; Henry b. 8/8/1842, d. 2/28/1929; John (our line), b. 1/19/1845, d. 7/31/1914; Lewis; and Eliza who married a Matthews. At the age of 19, John went to the Oil region of Pennsylvania, remained there for 16 years. He lost money during the Pit Hole excitement, he also struck dry hole on the Story farm, near Martinsburg but met success on Blaney farm. He returned to Snowden township and married Sadie A. Mille. |
New information just received from Lorrey Donaldson on August 21, 2000 Gloss, Philip M., Elk City PA, was born in Armstrong county on August 12, 1829, and was the son of Martin and Sarah (Hoffman) Gloss. Philip settled in Clarion Co. in 1848 and has resided in Elk township for the past twenty yars. He was married in 1850 to Miriam Bell, a daughter of Alexander and Martha (Chambers) Bell, of Paint township. They had the following children: Sarah E; Amos; William; James; Margaret; Martha; Jackson; Minnie; and John. His second wife was Eizabeth, daughter of John and Barbara (Young) McLaine of Paint township. They have had two children--Jennie and Harley.
