First Stop - The Pub! |

Where's the first port of call when you arrive in a new town? Citizens Advice? Perhaps a spot of light shopping? Nah, it's the pub, innit! It's always a good idea to make sure you're going to be absolutely shitfaced for the rest of the day, especially if you're planning to spend it in Rotherham. The Tut and Shive was always my personal favourite. It was always pitch black, had poor seating facilities and the night regularly ended in totally unprovoked violence, and yet it had a certain charm all of it's own. I liked it how they always decided against banning me from the premises, despite losing consciousness every night, falling into tables and smashing the drinks of total strangers, and even spitting in the face of The Landlord's beautiful Wife (although that did result in a stern warning from The Landlord who resembled a Red Indian and could kill people by the power of thought alone). Ah, happy days. It's sadly closed down forever now, but the place lives on in the hearts and minds of us all. Now we have to make do with this place. |

The Charter's Arms, which isn't half as nice, and always has a blue car parked in front of it. I once felt so sorry for The Landlord of this place that I went and got married just so we could book his function room for the reception and slip a bit of cash his way. Too generous, that's me. It probably won't be too long before you get chucked out of this place, so come with me now to the delightful little village of Whiston, where we can stop at the Offie and get a six-pack of cheap stuff..... |
