I saw you one day, back when I was young and stupid,
I thought you were the greatest thing,
so wonderfully charming,
so beautifully pure.
We didn’t talk for a long time,
then, when we did
I felt uplifted, blessed,
as though an angel had chosen me.
I would follow you with my eyes,
seeing more than what was there,
you were mean to me sometimes,
but really, at that moment, I didn’t care.
Everything about you was so right,
I would picture us married
with our beautiful baby,
our perfect, storybook life.
One day I woke up to the fact that together we were nothing,
there wasn’t anything there,
just my imagination,
all my wistful thoughts.
We never shared anything but words,
and deep inside, I’m glad,
‘cause you weren’t worth my love,
were barely worth my glance.
