Name: Aleren
Race: Gryphon (Athanasian) Rank: Librarian Gender: Male Age: 57 (Equal to about 26) Fur: Brown Feathers: Copper-brown Eyes: Amber Appearance: Aleren is a fairly typical Athanasian gryphon. His head and front legs are eagle-like, as well as his wings, while his torso and hind legs are shaped like a lion's. His tail is a large, fox-like brush of fur and feathers. His sleek, smooth fur is a deep, dirt brown color, while his feathers are lighter, with a coppery sheen to them. His fierce, avian eyes are amber gold, and he is a little larger than a lion. Personality: Aleren is very intelligent, and he loves to learn. He enjoys his position in the city as a librarian, and prides himself on the fact that he has almost no gryphonic accent, as gryphons tend to have a hard time pronouncing human words. He's affectionate and friendly, and not at all perturbed when people regard him strangely for not being a human. He also has a somewhat dry sense of humor and is easily amused. He is rather mischeivous, though his tricks are often played on the disrespectful or mean-spirited. Past: Aleren comes from a magical world called Athanasia. He originally came from a wild pride of gryphons, but during a time of famine, he entered the capital city, hoping to find food and shelter, and after landing a job as a librarian in the royal palace, has stayed ever since. He does not have a lot of friends and keeps to himself, though he's on friendly terms with the other librarians. Bond: Solaru Rufasilex From: Mirus |

The gryphon was still, so still that it appeared to be a statue, just a work of copper or stone. So the young boys who strode into the library never gave it a second glance, as they chattered back and forth loudly. They laughed as they flipped through old books they pulled from the shelves and then discarded haphazardly on one of the tables. Suddenly, a crisp, disapproving voice spoke from somewhere behind them.
"Kindly keep your voices down, please. This is a library, after all." The two boys turned around, confused, but apart from the unmovng statue, they were alone. They walked, uneasy, to the door, but as one of them passed the gryphon statue, it suddenly jerked its head sharply to stare balefully at them. The boy strangled a scream, and dragging his companion along, raced out of the library. Meanwhile, the assistant librarian, Dantas, had come out of the back room to see what the commotion was, a book-as always-cradled in his arms. He raised an eyebrow at the retreating boys, and inclined his head towards the gryphon. "Scaring the patrons again, Aleren?" He asked dryly. The gryphon clacked its beak in irritation. "All I said was that they were being too loud." Aleren explained. "And anyway, they made a mess of the books." Dantas snorted in disbelief. "Right. Don't think I don't recognize your statue trick by now." The halfling muttered as he went to replace the books on their shelves. Dantas was tall and lean, and though mostly human, he had the ears and ringed tail of a lemur. Halflings like him, though capable of using magic, were often mistrusted in cities. Dantas and Aleren, being the only ones of their kind, had formed an unusually close rapport with each other. "Oh, I almost forgot!" Dantas straightened, and held out the book in his arms so Aleren could see it. The gryphon recognized it; it was a text on traveling by magical means. His feathered ear tufts perked in interest. "Did you find something, Dantas?" Dantas grinned excitedly. "Did you know there's a spell in there that will take you to another world? Right out of Athanasia itself! Imagine, new dragons, species, entire cultures never seen before!" Aleren fixed a sharp yellow stare on his friend. "Dragons, eh?" His voice was hard. "You already tried it, didn't you?" Dantas shuffled sheepishly. "Well, yes," he admitted, "But it was perfectly safe!" Aleren's voice had shifted into a growl. "Oh, yes, perfectly safe, until one time you try it, and end up underwater. Or encased in stone!" He snarled. Dantas continued defiantly. "Anyway, I tried it, and it worked, and it was wonderful! They have dragons there, nothing like Athanasia's dragons," Athanasian dragons, even being forced to bond to humans to survive, were still well known for being more trouble than they were worth, "And they even allow offworlders to bond to them!" "And next I suppose you're going to say you signed up for one of these offworld clutches?" Aleren asked dryly. "Ah, no." The assistant librarian began shuffling ackwardly again. "Actually, Isignedyouupfortheclutch." Large, amber-gold eyes blinked cluelessly. "What?" "I...signed up for the clutch...in your name." There was an undignified squawk from the gryphon. "Whaaat!?" "It seemed like a good idea at the time..." Aleren was intrigued, despite himself. And, after giving Dantas a sound rap on the head with his beak, found the spell and got the lemur-halfling to give him the coordinates to this Mirus place. He looked around at the new world, and thought all the trouble of bonding was worth it, just to see it. Though next time, he'd have to drag Dantas to the nests... |

Name: Solaru Rufasilex
Gender: Male Colour: Copper-Brown Size: Medium Personality: It's actually just a coincidence that Solaru and his bond Aleren are very similar in colouration, but it's certainly not a coincidence that they match each other well in personality. Solaru is highly intelligent, and very much a natural born scholar; if he hadn't bonded to Aleren he would have constructed his own library. But as it is, he fully intends to join his bond in the royal palace library. He's rather quiet by nature, more sensible in personality than his bond, although that doesn't mean he's not up for a bit of mischief every now and then, especially against those he feels deserve it. He has a strong sense of justice, and as such a practical joke against someone who deserves it is well within his capability. He does, of course, share his bond's dry sense of humour. Abilities: Psionics (Telepathy, Teleportation, Telekinesis), Vocal Speech, Full Shifting Bonded To: Aleren |
