Ok, actually, he's a stuck-up little snob, and cocky and arrogant to boot. He is what some people might call 'hidebound', he really dislikes abnormal dragon colors or non-human candidates.
Past: He definitely inherited his attitude from his father, who's a bronzerider. His mother is one of the junior weyrwoman of Darkling Dawn. It was no surprise, except to Boetius, that the searchdragons weren't interested in him, so he left for another weyr.
