| Jaedan sat in the records room in the Harperhall, where he was busy copying some of the older and less legible of the hides. He sighed and brushed dark red hair out of his eyes as he looked up from his work, and was startled to meet a pair of jeweled eyes, set in a dark brown face. The brown fire lizard chirped happily, pushing its head into the boy's hand, begging to be scratched. Jaedan sighed, and obliged his fire lizard. "Rourn, what are you doing here?" He asked the flit as he scratched the brown's eyeridges. A huge, bronze head snapping at him irritatedly. The dragon's rider glancing upwards, frowning. Two other dragons sitting a few dragonlengths away, with their riders. The bronze's rider talking to a Masterharper. Jaedan blinked, frowning. "You were scared away by a dragon?" Rourn crooned, eyes still whirling slightly. Jaedan rolled his eyes. What were dragons doing at the HarperHall, anyway? Oh well, he guessed he'd find out soon enough. He hurriedly finished copying the last of the hides, and left to find out what all the fuss was about. His other fire lizard, a gold named Vesther, met him just outside the records room, and proceeded to scold him for ignoring her for all of two candlemarks. Jaedan rolled his eyes at the fussy little queen, stopping long enough for her to land on his shoulder, and continued on to find out why there were dragons at the Hall. "Hey, Jaedan! Did you know there was a search?" Jaedan turned. A slender brown-haired boy ran up to him. "Oh, hey Alaos. Well, that would explain why there are dragons at the Hall." He waved to the sixteen-turn-old apprentice Harper. Alaos stopped, eyes widening. "There are dragons here? Right now?" Jaedan blinked. "I guess. I mean, according to Rourn, there are. Though how far you should trust a fire lizard, I'm not too sure..." Something snorted behind him as Alaos went pale. Not very far, let me assure you. Although in this case... Blue eyes widening, Jaedan turned around, to see a huge bronze dragon head staring at him from the outside of the nearest window. Surprised, he backed away from the window, almost bumping into Alaos with out realizing it. "Turn around, dimglow!" Alaos hissed at him. Jaedan turned around. There, standing in front of him, was a man who could only be the bronze dragon's rider. He grinned as he glanced through the window behind Jaedan at the bronze dragon. "I apologise for Jumarth's scaring you, Harper." He said, glaring pointedly at the bronze. Jaedan stuttered an answer. "T-that's alright, Dragonrider." Alaos was staring at the bronze dragon. Jaedan knew that the apprentice harper was fascinated with dragons, and had always dreamed of being searched. The giant, blue-green eyes was slowly swirling as the dragon stared at the two harpers. He rumbled amusedly. What say we take these two back with us, H'lian? His rider, H'lian, blinked as he stared at his dragon. But he just shrugged, and turned to the two harpers. "Jumarth says that he thinks the two of you should stand for the clutch. Do you accept?" Jaedan's jaw dropped. "Us, really? O-of course!" He said as Alaos nodded hurriedly. That's not what I said. H'lian frowned, looking at the bronze searchdragon. What do you mean, Jumarth? Are they dragonrider-material or not? Well, yes, but-Oh, never mind. Let's go, then. H'lian blinked, then shrugged and helped the two boys onto the bronze dragon's back. Promising to sort it out with his dragon later, they set off for Tiynarea Weyr. |
