A dark, dark blue fire lizard perched on the wooden table, her black wings speckled with tiny points of white that resembled the stars in the night sky. The starry flit chirped up at her owner, a blond-haired boy almost sixteen-turns-old. His gray-green eyes were tired looking, but that was not surprising, since it was almost one o'clock in the morning. Kelduen rubbed his eyes sleepily as he glanced at his starry flit. He smiled, she could almost blend in with the sky outside his bedroom window. He stroked her head as he glanced down at the scroll of hide he'd been writing on. The top half of the paper was filled with words, written in a scrawling, very unneat handwriting. The rest of the hide was covered with various small drawings, the largest being one of the dark blue fire lizard's head. Kelduen grinned, lifting up the hide so that the fire lizard could look at it. "Well, Lythir, what do you think? Does it look like you?" Lythir responded by hissing at her double on the hide, then turned her back on the picture and Kelduen. The boy rolled his eyes. "Fine then, no need to throw a fit. I guess I'm not much of an artist, huh?" Lythir turned her head and chirped. Kelduen yawned, glancing out the window again at the dark sky. "Guess I'd better go to bed. It's really late." Lythir crooned her agreement, settling down on his pillow to sleep. Kelduen crumpled up the hide and threw it away. He'd work on his homework tomorrow. The next morning... Lythir chirped from her position on Kelduen's shoulder. He glanced up at the dark flit. "Hmm? What is it, Lythir?" Then he saw the eggs laying the sand, practically in the water. He rushed over to get a closer look. The small, round eggs were laying in a sandy nest right by the edge of a lake. Kelduen frowned. Why would a fire lizard lay her eggs so close to water? He figured it had to be a green's clutch, he didn't see a gold fire lizard anywhere, and green's weren't exactly protective of their nests. Curious, he picked up one of the eggs, and jumped when it started to wriggle in his hands. Cracks appeared in the smooth surface of the shell, and the egg shattered explosively. A small, blue snakelike creature lay in his hands, creeling anxiously. It was definitley not a fire lizard. Lythir crooned at the little creature, flitting off to find food for the hatchling. The little creature squeaked in reply, then lay its tiny head down, staring up at Kelduen. Startled, he realized that the other eggs had begun to hatch also, and more brightly colored snakelike creatures appeared. These all slithered their way into the water, where they promptly began to hunt for food. Kelduen knelt, gently dropping the tiny blue creature into the water. Though it swam about playfully in the water, it stayed near the boy, crooning at him occasionally. Great, looks like he'd just Impressed another pet. Lythir appeared again, carrying a large fish in her claws. Setting it by the water's edge, she flew off to perch on Kelduen's shoulder, where she watched the blue creature. The hatchling eyed the fish suspiciously, and began to nibble at it. Evidently it liked what it tasted, as the fish was soon gone. Squeaking contentedly, the little creature slithered up to Kelduen, and promptly fell asleep. Kelduen grinned. "Well, Lythir. Looks like we have a new friend. What shall we call him?" Lythir just squawked in return. Kelduen laughed. "Alright then, we'll call it-him, I'm going to assume the colors work the same as with dragons, we'll call him Kasmaar." Lythir chirped in agreement, and the tiny blue Kasmaar crooned sleepily. |
