SOLID OBJECTS II, OUTDOOR SITE SPECIFIC INSTALLATION, 2003 ( white paint on driveway, 50 feet x 45 feet) MUSEUM OF DOMESTIC DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE (MoDA), UK |
The Project required the artists to make an outdoor site- specific work based on familiar domestic objects whose function, scale and form have been altered. 'Solid Objects 2' is a list of words forming a receipt. One word of each item on the list corresponds to food (potato, salt, waffle..). It is paired with another in a domestic/architectural reference (couch, brick, slab.. ) to form a new object or meaning. The 'receipt' format of the work may indicate the infiltration of technology into every aspect of modern living whilst the conversion of the receipt into road marking references the omnipresence of advertisement in the urban landscape. 'Solid Objects 2' references 'Solid Objects', a performance with video done in 1999. As in 'Solid Objects', the list in 'Solid Objects 2' is a collection of words which reference objects but in the unfolding of their association, change identity. |
