Background (from the character sheet)
Occupation: Solider for hire, Body guard. 1st Appearance: Two Fisted American Adventure #1. Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Outgoing, friendly, loyal to a fault. Brick is a great guy to have as a friend, but not someone you want as an enemy. Physical Apperance: Well built, muscular with a sly smile that gives a hint of invulnerablity. Battle Tactics: Going in both fists a'flying. Team: Based in NYC. Other members included: Mandi Stein & Dr Andrew Stein

Inspirations:
Brick was created for a 1920's/30's pulp type game. Sort of a cross between The Pulps, The Justice Society of America & Pop Culture from that time. Being a huge Golden Age comic book fan, I was more than capable of making him. Brick is very much a Golden Age Superman (Kal-L for those in the know...) type. Leaping instead of flying, more resistant to damage than invulnerable. Probably inspired as much by Philip Wylie's Gladiator Hugo Danner, his DC Comics son "Iron" Munro & Kal-L, Brick was going to be very much a classic "strongman". In fact, a fellow gamer pointed out how much of Brick's personality was like Ben Grimm AKA "The Thing" from the Fantastic Four than any of his inspirations. Brick was a former bodyguard for the Professor Andrew Stein. I would also say that Race Bannon was also an inspiration, but you have to leave out the "Race/Dr Quest lovers" jokes. :)
Brick's "face" or physical model as never a choice. I'm a big fan of Jack Webb & his late 60's Dragnet. I grew up on that show and still love it. I felt like Jack had a very golden age (at least comic book wise) feel to him. Finding a picture in black & white was just icing on the cake. One last thing, the name Brick Tannen is a real person. While I was working in a "shop at home" call center, I liked to jot down interesting names of customers. I would use those names later in RPG's. I kept trying to find a name for Brick and then the day before we started the game I got a call from Mr. Brick Tannen. Mr Tannen spelt his name different, but it was the inspiration.

Memory/High Point:
My favorite memory of Brick was also probably his best moment. Usually in games, when we meet a group of natives/strangers there is almost always a test of strength. Since I'm used to it, I was totally prepared. So the group landed on Skull Island (yeah, THAT Skull Island) and we came across the tribe and it was time for the "test of might". I was worried as the tribe's champion was described as about twice my size and about twice my strength. I was expecting a battle and hoping on high rolls, but then, a moment of meta gaming/thinking outside the box/Captain Kirk thinking hit me. As Brick wrestled with the tribe's champion, Brick finally got a hand hold on the tribe's champion and threw him into the air as far and as hard as he could. Then as the champion came back down, Brick readied himself and just round housed the champion nearly off the island. Needless to say, the battle was over. Brick even made it a point to go help the champion up and get medical attention. The champion was brought back to consciousness and able to accept his defeat with honor.
