Background
Mirumoto Kane is the only son of a minor noble. Kane joined the Dragon Clan because they are the only ones that used both swords. After reading on the subject as a child, Kane felt that was the true way of the samurai. Dragon clan accepted him, as much as they accept anyone. Kane was trained by Master Sennan along with one other promising pupil, Togashi Toshimoto. Toshimoto was Master Sennan's former star pupil and was not happy about the new arrival. The two both strove to earn their master's approval, but as time went on it was obvious that Kane was the better student and swordsman. Eventually Toshimoto left Master Sennan, as did Kane when his training was done. After a few years Kane received a message from Master Sennan to come back. When Kane arrived, Master Sennan and his current pupil were dead at the hands of Toshimoto. Eventually Kane catches up with Toshimoto and the dance of vengeance begins. However, the swordsmen are too close in style and training and neither is able to gain much of an advantage. Toshimoto resorts to trickery and blows a powder into Kane's face which blinds him. While disabled, Toshimoto goes for the killing blow. Kane, sensing the attack but not knowing from where, dodges but is struck in the eye. Kane strikes out while Toshimoto had closed in for his strike and lands a hit on him. When Kane finally clears the powder out his remaining eye, Toshimoto is gone with only a bloody trail leading away. This battle costs Kane his eye and gives him a scar which extends beyond his patch. Kane vows to bring Toshimoto to justice one day. Eventually hearing that Toshimoto has become a ronin duelist. Before Kane can go to claim honor, The Emperor calls for Kane to serve him.
Kane has a loving wife and a son and daughter. Kane is oblivious to his wife's undying devotion for him and would be confused if he knew. Kane, like most honorable men, turns to geishas sparing his wife from her child raising duties. Kane has been called heartless, but in truth he is simply devoted to his duty. Very little will keep him from it. Kane is a very large man for Rokugan, somewhere around 6' 2". Which adds to his intimidation. As to be expected, Kane is not very good with a bow. So he very rarely uses one, preferring to use his swords.
Inspiration
Sonny Chiba and Toshiro Mifune. Mifune IS a samurai in my opinion. Chiba is the face. For a while, I thought of using Chiba's real first name (Shin'ichi) before deciding on Kane. There really was a one eyed Samurai who's name was Yugyu Jubei. I thought about using Jubei as a first name also, as well as Chiba's character in Streetfighter's name (Tsurugi). Why not use any of these? Well, it may sound stupid, but I didn't want to dishonor these men. I respect (and like!) Chiba's movies and Jubei went on to train several Shoguns including the Tokugawa Shogun. Just seemed wrong to use their names in a game. Yeah, I know, may sound stupid. But it mattered to me, so I didn't do. Kane means several things including tribute, warrior; the doubly-accomplished, golden; man, the eastern sky; beautiful. Man, Warrior. Wasn't a choice....
Another (SLIGHT) influence was the character of Anakin Skywalker. Not that Kane was a "chosen one", but he is destined to be a great swordsman. And seeing a promotional photo of the character with a scar later lead to the missing eye.
Once dealt out 65 points of damage on 02/17/2206 on one attack. Roll was 9K3, 1 void spent on roll.
