Laclark

Male, age 19

Craft bred (smithcraft) but taken to Alabaster Weyrhold, friend of Lo'pez.
Less is known about Laclark than others of the Weyrhold, because he just doesn't talk much. When he does open up, however, it's a trick to shut him up!

He has an affinity for learning interesting new things, has a great knack for technology and finding connections in odd places (and with odd people!). Laclark has been near a lightning strike, and for some reason this has made him acutely aware of the surrounding weather and electric charges. (In real life, he'd be one of those guys who makes light posts flicker when they go underneath them!)

Laclark is tall, good looking. He has tanned skin, dark brown hair (almost black), which is short and still hangs into his eyes. He has a very charming smile, though he is more shy than some with his good looks.

Laclark very much would like to ride with his friend Lo'pez on a dragon. He is not single-minded about this goal, but he is devoted to the idea that dragons and men were meant to be together!

He currently works for Alabaster as a guard, but also with Engell specifically because of his smart handling of things.

If he impresses he will change his name to C'lark. He would probably be best on a brown or blue dragon, but he'd definitely not mind the chance to Impress any at all! He has no pets or fire lizards.
"Look at them," Laclark said to one of the other guards, "aren't they fabulous?"

The man merely grunted. Obvously, Laclark's enthusiasm for dragon kind wasn't shared by his companion. The trio of dragons came back from Aden weyr and suddenly things got all complicated. At the gather held for their honor, it appeared that the males, and those who had come from Jerdan weyr as well, had been summoned back for a
mating flight.

This made Laclark a bit worried. Because he and Lo'pez were such good friends, he promised that he'd keep
Leilani company and would keep her sedated if necessary, until he and the others -- maybe minus one of their number if they flew the queen at Aden -- came home.

Leilani paced in her weyr like a wild cat, and watched Laclark.

"I know you don't want me here," he said.

"You read minds now..." She spat.

"Leilani, he wanted me to keep you company, pass the time, so you weren't worried!"

"Too late for that."

Rider mine, who is that you are speaking so angrily at? He has a good heart.

Leilani paused in her wringing of her hands, and her pacing slowed. "What?" She looked to Diamoth's room, where light streamed in from the late afternoon sun.

He is a good man! I think he would make quite a good rider. Why not ask one of the others, with a search dragon! He has a ... he smells like lightning, and I like storms.

"I know, I know..." Leilani asked Diamoth to summon one of the smaller blue or brown search dragons, and their accompanying riders, to her weyr. Then she looked back at Laclark.

"...Anything I can do?" He asked, and she finally smiled when she heard the flapping of wings outside. It was blue
Trelerth with his rider A'rd. Known in the Protectorate as quite the search pair.

Sure enough, when the blue looked over at Laclark, he snorted out hot air and gave a little hooting trumpet.

"He's good to go," A'rd said, "I think there is a clutch still needing candidates, at
Talor Cliff. Ashira and Daverin just went there, so I hear."

"You hear a lot, for a Blackstone boy," Leilani chided him, and then showed them out of her weyr.
Laclark stood on the sands with a kind of awe. He wasn't sure what he was doing now. He was nervous and though there were many others around, he found his foot tapping on the sand. It was nice, warm inside the hatching grounds, but he liked it cooler like it was outside.

Then, a white hatched first! He couldn't believe this, there was a white! If only he could get closer to it, to see it better... Who Impressed it? Was it male or female? Well, it turned out to be female, and impressed to a young woman. They left the sands and he watched another of the Alabaster candidates Impressed. Then a couple eggs started opening and he took interest in it. One brown had already passed by Laclark before this next bunch of hatchlings, so he was just getting used to it.

Then, he hears a trumpet and and Laclark walks to the brown making the noise.

There was noise in his head too, a voice which told him
Do you want those other dragons over me? I want you, but you keep looking at them!

Suddenly Laclark realized that he'd impressed! The dragon's mind wrapped around his own, and became part of him. An electric feeling, nestling together like thunder and lightning often do.

"Of course I want only you, Voltith!" Laclark says. They move by the others, and follow the few who have already impressed outside. There, meat and cleaning oils and cloth are being given out to the weyrlings. Laclark takes his share, and then the attendant asks him what the dragon's name is, but also what his own will be!

"I haven't thought of that!" Laclark said. "I wonder... I go by Clark sometimes, so C'lark is good for me."

It is good for me too, C'lark, I was going to say that that is the name I picked out for you.

He laughed, and fed the hungry dragon.
