Kalkin's weyr
Gender/Age: male, 66
Rank/Craft: Master Healer (formerly surgery/diagnosis, now Interrogation), also Journeyman Tinker (smithcraft) once upon a time (read about his whereabouts in younger life here)
Location: Alabaster Hold
Relatives/Family: all family dead except a distant brother, he has lovers among the ranks (including Engell?) and there is a possibility of children with at least two of the women (Daverin and Brinna), his name has been changed to protect him. Under his old personage, he was almost handfasted and has a son of 30 turns whom he has never met. He has sired other children, such as Vrtanya,, Sab're and Myst, and Cynonix, possibly more with other Holders or Weyrlings in other places and times due to his romping through time.** View VANYA's BROOD (all Zekiran offspring translated into mostly-pern inhabitants)
Dragon if any: no. simply, no.**
Physical Description: 6'3", 190, all muscle, very lean and muscular but not bulky. Darkly olive skin that becomes golden tan, no scars nor markings, extremely black hair that is long (to back) with widows peak, very straight. Vibrant blue eyes, narrow. High cheeks and strong nose, heavily lined face. Very dark nails. Usually found wearing violet robes and silken pants, rarely wears shoes. Looks good in nearly anything. Voice is deep and smooth, like everything else about him.
Emotional/Mental Description: Kalkin is pretty much insane. This is NOT a good time to talk about him. Really, never is a good time. He is passionate, dangerous, oversexed, quick witted, and unnaturally intelligent. All of these things have come with the side effects of his old Master's work on him, and he really won't tell you anything more...
Skills: Physically he's able to perform feats which normal people can't do, lifting heavy things and breaking unbreakable things. He is fast, remarkably so, and his reflexes are a mirror of his moods (fast, to the point and often deadly). His fingers are more nimble than a fire lizards and can get into just as many places. He is highly adept at healing arts, everything from child birthing and pre natal care to surgical techniques. He can diagnose an injury better than a disease, however. His abilities have been twisted over time to reflect the needs of the Hold: he is the primary inflictor of pain for Engell's interrogation and threat center. Anything someone else might fix he can inflict in a matter of moments, and many things that even their on-site surgeon Galen can't fix... He truly enjoys doing this job as well. On the other side, he's brilliant in every sense of the word, and can fix machinery. He has physically been to the Aivas site, but was not allowed access to the parts department ... yet. He will be, if Engell has anything to say about it. He will be able to not only understand the computers there, but to make his own in a matter of months. Kalkin is also quite adept at obscenely interesting sex play. Just ask him.
History: that, my curious friends, is completely need-to-know. And you do "not" need to know. Suffice to say that his presence around Pern has been felt, and his part in Alabaster's work is now covert because he must be kept safe. (okay, okay, if you really need to know... he's here...)
Notes and Special Information: Kalkin is completely insane, contrary to the above statement of  "pretty much". As the history, "need to know only" covers here too. His madness will be inherited by any offspring he manages to have here, and he is in fact looking forward to having some. Kids, not crazy kids.
Pets/Hobbies/Posessions: He does "not" have pets in the normal sense (a bad idea given his predisposition for surgical procedures...) but he does have two fire lizards (blue Echo and bronze Courage) which he acquired under a different name in a different time and place.
This little grey fire lizard came into Kalkin's life recently, on a trip around Pern, when visiting Sapphire Weyr. Though Courage and Echo occasionally ply for treats, this little guy is quite a trickster! His name is Tsuki, an ancient word for Moon, since he is quite like moonlight when he darts around stealing food...

Echo and Courage pictures came from Glass Island Weyr.
** wouldn't you like to know ... he does have a dragon... here...
