Name: Margot
BACK to Alabaster Folk
Gender/Age: female, 19 Dragon if any: Gold Reith, Impressed at Istabitha's Weyr
Rank/Craft: Hold born Candidate, "spy crafter" for Engell
Location: Alabaster Hold
Relatives/Family: all on location but unimportant (mother, father, three sisters, one brother, she is 2nd born, son is youngest)
Physical Description: 5'4", 140, slightly chunky build but very pretty in that way, dark tan skin, rich black-red hair that falls to past her shoulders in large ringlets and is rarely tied back, big yellow-brown eyes. Full features and long painted nails, loves wearing frilly skirts and cute tops in pale colors. Has a lot of jewlery worn for the right occsaions. Voice is sultry, pleasant and somewhat deep.
Emotional/Mental Description: curious, sometimes obnoxiously so. Asks questions of everyone but knows when to shut the heck up too. Can be trusted to keep secrets and has numerous ones herself. Is fairly lusty and likes to play with the big boys, namely Lexan and Juvon.
Skills: general Hold abilities but she can't sew well enough to get by there, is a better organizer than cook, and loves to delegate work. She is however extremely perceptive and intense when she is working for Lord Holder Engell, and is excellent at remembering names and dates, small details.
History: born and bred in the Hold to a minor family, and was searched when she was only seven turns old originally. Her family sensibly waited until she was older to send her to the Weyr proper, and in the intervening time she learned the basics of Hold and Weyr life. She was introduced to Engell (as all Hold children are, even down to the drudges) and he took a liking to her style ("Mister, why is your hair all white like that? You aren't old enough for that!") And since then he has trusted her to be a fly on the wall so to speak when in other Holds or in private parties.
Notes and Special Information: Margot is almost fanatically loyal to Engell, has been madly in love with one or more of the people in the Hold at one point or another, including him. (But then, who hasn't?) She has no intention of settling down with one person, particularly during Threadfall, and relishes the idea of finding a mate purely because of a dragon's Flight.
Pets/Hobbies/Posessions: Margot has a pet that is similar to a ferret, he is only slightly less intelligent than a fire lizard, and his name is Blitz.
"Margot, you know that we've never had a decent number of candidates go to Istabitha's, don't you?" Engell said, leaning on his elbow while watching her from across the large black marble desk.

She nodded. "I know we have sent many of our weyrbrats to Talor or Aden, but I don't recall any going to Istabitha's."

"Well," Engell said, smiling suddenly, "you're going to be the first then. You may wish to pack something, they have eggs on the sands and you've been requested."

Margot's jaw opened and closed, but nothing came out of her mouth until she stammered, "I -- requested? Me? Lord Holder, this is --"

"Their search rider told me that it was you, this morning."

"Was that who that was? Circling around this morning? He was looking into my weyr! I thought he was some kind of pervert!" Margot laughed.

"About time someone spied on you instead of the other way around, my dear," Engell laughed.

Margot did as she was asked, and packed her things away. She left herself a little room, hoping that they had crafters at Istabitha's, so she could flesh out her collection of things, dresses and trinkets both, while there.
Margot was very pleased. The weyr was undergoing quite a restoration while she was there, and she enjoyed herself helping out. She helped put up new tapestries in the main hall, fixed some of the metal fixtures to a fine shine in the dining hall, and even assisted the records keeper in dusting off their old scrolls and tomes.

It was exhaustive, but she was one of the first candiates to this clutch, so she did have a little time on her hands. Then, all of a sudden, the clutch began to hatch! She was just about to eat her midday meal, when the urgen call went out from Naeodin and her dragon!

The hatching started strong with a brown. But Margot was worried by the time about a dozen more eggs had hatched and not one of them was for her. Her heart began to sink. But then the last three eggs on the sands hatched.

At once, a bronze and blue shook their shells off. But it was the gold that strode away from her shell with a snort.

I don't like how they stare at me! All of those eyes! The dragons and the people! Margot, they are making fun of me!

"... they weren't looking at you like that, they were just admiring you, silly Reith!" Margot said, smiling so broadly that she thought she'd never be able to frown again! She -- SHE had Impressed the GOLD! Wouldn't Lord Holder Engell be pleased! They now had two strong golds for Alabaster's sands, and he would certainly be proud of her when she got back!
If I take my wings and fold them just so, you know... We could stay in the barracks.

"I don't want to stay there any longer, sweet Reith. We belong in our own weyr, and we'll have one when we return to my home, Alabaster. There, a beautiful wide white marble cot will be there."

And you will put rushes and soft things on it? Because you know how I like to be comfortable.

Margot laughed. "Of course my young queen. Anything for you!" She did a flourshing bow, and the dragon gave a chuckle as well.
"She'll soon be wanting to fly her mating flight..." the weyrwoman told Margot.

The young woman nodded.

"She's good enough to keep a lot of the big browns at bay right now," Margot said of the sleeping dragon.

"But that doesn't mean you are going to be able to keep their riders at bay for long."

Margot nodded. It would be a challenge. But perhaps at their home weyr at Alabaster, they'd be able to select just exactly who they'd be flying with... You never know!
