The following are paraphrases of questions and answers, they are not complete, entire or official. Hansard is the official record of Parliamentary business. This is not finalised until some days after the event.

Date: Wednesday, 23 July 1997
Time: 3:06 pm NZT

Questions Of The Day (7-12)

9. Jeanette Fitzsimons to the Minister of Energy, Max Bradford.

Q: Has he had meetings with privately owned companies to discuss the possible purchase of ECNZ after it is split up?

A. No. This coalition government has no intention of selling ECNZ or Contact Energy to anyone.

Date: Wednesday, 11 June 1997
Time: 3:12 pm NZT

8. Jeanette Fitzsimons to the Minister of Conservation, Nick Smith.

Q. As a result of the Court of Appeal decision yesterday on the interpretation of the West Coast Accord, does he see new opportunities to protect important habitat for kiwi, kaka and kakariki on the West Coast?

A. I have only just received the decision this afternoon, my advice is that it shows the Government’s action and Timberlands has been lawful. Need more information on the ecological worth of the unprotected sites still in question before we decide on the future of Timberland’s operations in the areas in question.
