Bob Essensa on the Sabres West Coast Swing
(Geoff Nason, sabres.com, 1/15/02)
Bob Essensa - who has spent significant time as a member of both the Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Coyotes organizations in recent years – notes the difference in playing for an Eastern Conference team.
"My wife and I chuckled back in the summer when we pulled up the Sabres’ schedule for this season and we realized there was only a one-week road trip out West. Out in the West you’re used to being on the road basically every other week. To have a schedule as light as we’ve had this season has been a real treat. I don’t know if the guys who have played in the East their whole careers even realize how much different it is to play out in the West."
Essensa does feel there are some benefits to playing in the Western Conference though, because being on road trips does make a team closer in his opinion. He thinks that Buffalo may benefit from this trip in the sense that team comradery will sky rocket.
