In the '80s I published a model for how DNA information is gained through natural selection. This analysis was part of a discussion regarding evolution of AIDS viruses. Although the model wasn't developed in a rigorous manner, I still think it has validity as an outline. The reader may view the original paper as recently scanned onto the internet. page 1 page 2 My position on AIDS has been expanded considerably since that time, although present ideas are still based on what was stated in that early paper.
