After a 2 month lay off, missing six regulars and with just 9 players, the Lions put in an excellent and characteristically enthusiastic display in their loss to a more experienced Oldham side, conceding 5 tries to 1. The whole team dug in deep and worked hard for each other. The coaches are really encouraged by another improved performance. Each player kept to the game plan which was only introduced the previous day! Deciding on the awards was difficult as all of the players deserved praise; the front row of Jacob Rylance and Adam McGuire worked well taking the ball up hard; Tom Fairhust and Ethan Palmer gave good accounts of themselves, running and tackling above their weight; Jacob Swift organised and cover defended well; Callum McCcormick showed what he can do with the ball and as a hard defender. However, the awards went as follows:- Top tackler was Josh Hines who was everywhere, chasing everything and full of work and enthusiasm! Most improved was Harry Ogden who put in some brilliant cover defence and scored a superb 70 yard solo effort to the delight of his team and the parents. Player of the match was without doubt Zoe Connolly, who was asked to play acting half for the first time ever and, not being phased by this, didn't miss a play the ball, giving excellent service to her runners all game. Well done to the u10's. Keep it up!! |
