'Extreme Sport' Hedonism

Hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure, and nothing
can be more hedonistic than extreme sports. People
today may not recognize it as such, but it is the straight
forward, drug addicting, personal pleasure seeking. 'Hedonism'. Mind you, pleasure in and of itself is not evil, but putting it first and foremost, and as the goal and aim of life, is hardly thrilling but sad.

Living life on the so-called edge and risking their lives is an intoxicating drug. in essense not much different than those addicted to other drugs. Still the 'adrenalin rush junkie' even if he or she knows it and can't always kick the habit, as it can literally take over their lives and be their 'reason for living'. They always seem to need just one more hit. And althought, it isn't the sexual or alcholic hedonism that we might be used to hearing about, but it is hedonism nevertheless. ‘Extreme sports’ is a modern day lust of the flesh like no other and it is rampant in our ungodly societies, because of the wealth and time many of us have on our hands..

Sure in our perverted culture where so many people become so estranged from others through sheer numbers and the impersonal separation that divides us, we all seem to need something to call our own. For our self esteem, we seem to need something that is ‘Our Thing’, something we can concentrate on that we are good at ...  something in which we can have pride in, and something we can have in common with a few others. We are social animals that need a grouping and extreme sports can sometimes give its participants this shallow self esteem, but its hardly worth the price it takes from our souls..

Sport for activity and social outings is great .... when not taken to the extreme. But risking your life for nothingness and pride is a total waste. For as even Jesus said, when the devil tempted him by saying, Cast yourself down for does not scriptures say, 'That the angels say protect you'. And the Lord responded, 'Get thee behind me Satan, for 'Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God'. And tempting God, the giver of life, by risking our lives without a reason and without a cause is tempting Him to continue to protect us from our own disobediances in risking what He gave us. And we can't keep tempting God by taking dares and foolish challenges without consequences.

Throwing our lives and wasting our lives for nothingness is a tragedy just like a suicide. And yet as a wise caring person said to a person who was thinking about committing suicide,  "Instead of wasting and destroying your life, why not give it to others" In other words, instead of risking our lives on a mountain cliff or a raging waterfall for pleasure, why not risk our lives and sacrifice our lives for others.

There are enough true life adventures and risks in giving our lifes as a service to others and to the Lord, that there is no need to get into artifical highs and supericiality. Get the real thrill from really putting our lives on the line. be a volunteer worker, or an indepenadant missionary. Do something that is meaningful and gives a high that comes from a job well done and a life well served.

Pleasures are not the goal of life, just something the Lord rewards us with as put Him first now and in the life to come. "For at the hand of the Lord , there are pleasures forever more'. So please don't go to the extreme in this life and waste your life for nothing when you could give it for something.

For as the wisest man on earth (Solomon) said,

Eccelesiastes 2:1-3  I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy PLEASURE: and, behold, this also is vanity. I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?  I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.  This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

All extreme sports end up as 'Vanity of vanities, and aren't satisfying  in the end'
For when they go to the extreme and become our reason for being, our motivation for living, when others and the Lord should be ..... Then that’s really dangerous and frightening … Why ? because ...

One life will soon be past
Only what's done for Jesus will last

In My Opinion, Don't you agree ?
