I was one of Canada's Ten Most Wanted Why me Lord, why do they keep picking me up....Ha, everything must be for a purpose and a reason as this is a testimony from way back The year was l974, me and another brother were traveling from a Christian home in Calgary Alberta to another Christian home about one hundred miles north in Red Deer. It was about 11:00 o’clock at night and we were driving down the freeway without a care in the world, when a police car came up behind us and put on his lights. We stopped, he walked over and said he had to stop us because we had one tail light out. Yea Right !!. Anyway his flashlight took a double take on me. His mind focused in on me and he asked. "Were you ever on Vancouver Island?" " Yes, sir I responded." "Please get out of the car and put your hands behind your back" "What, what did I do?" The policeman then asked the brother I was in the car with, how long he had known me. And when he responded only about two weeks, that was it for me. And into the back of the police car I went and onto the police station he took me. There I was placed in the middle of the squad room, and the policeman gathers a few others around his prize catch, and informs me of my crime. He says, "See this picture, this is you… Right?" "Huh, yea, it sort of looks like me. Yes I'm over 6 feet and I did have a beard, and Yes, I was on Vancouver Island last year? but what do you think I did." "You killed three people one night, didn't you? Admit it, But we have you now. Don't you know you are one of the Ten Most Wanted Men in Canada?" "Me, I didn't kill anyone ! " "Sure, sure, ....Why are you wasting our time, why not confess and make things easier on youself" "Huh, I didn't kill anyone, at least that I know of" " O.K. you want to play tough !! Get up and we're going to positively I/D. you. Don’t you know that you left your fingerprints on the murder weapon" "Huh ?" I responded.Six hours pass as they send out for the electronic fingerprints and wait and see if they have a match. I get tired of their relentless questioning, what with my memory I can barely remember yesterday let alone where I was over a year ago and what I did on a certain night. I was tired, hungry, frustrated, exhausted, and confused. I fell forward in my chair for the longest time as they watched my every move for some sort of tell-tale sign of my obvious quilt. They all surely thought, they would be in for promotions for so cleverly arresting one of Canada's Ten Most Wanted. And then more information came booming over the loudspeaker from Intertel Police International Headquarters, or some other official sounding agency. """""Beware of the Vancouver Island killer, he is ruthless and extremely dangerous"""""" Everyone in the station takes a step back and keep their hands close to their guns. """""He is cunning and deceptive. Under no circumstances trust him, as he may pretend to be lethargic, he is a master of deception. We peat, he is a master of deception.""""" Their glares beaded down upon me once again, as I tried to wipe the sleep from my tired eyes. "Yea they said, see he's trying to trick us. Don't trust him boys, we better keep the handcuffs on him. Then the loudspeaker booms out again, """""""The killer has a distinguishing SCAR on his abdomen.********** "Come on" says I, "I must be innocent, cause I don't have a scar on my stomach." So they ordered my shirt to be pulled up, and with microscopic vision they examine me for the telltale incriminating evidence that once and for all is going to throw me in the slammer forever. "Ah ha, there it is, see it, that must be it...Look at that, do you see it?" "I looked down and there it was a little red mark on my side because I had been hunched over for so long that I had a sweat mark creased in my skin" So the heat got turned up again, as they said it would be so much better for me if I just admitted my quilt. There was things they could do for me, like get a lawyer, and have some food, and have some sleep." I shook myself, and even thought about confessing, I was so tired and so confused. Maybe I actually did kill three people? Maybe I just blotted it out of my mind? Maybe I was sleep walking? I never took drugs ever, so maybe I did it in my sleep. I was there, I do look like the murderer. I am tired and hungry"......."Wait a minute, I didn't kill anyone did I? And then ten minutes later, my fingerprints match came in, and they all went in the back room. And came out mad as hell. My fingerprints didn't match. !!! And they weren’t glad to know the truth but angry with me for not being in the Top Ten. They undid my handcuffs, and literally threw me outside the front door of the police station without an apology or even a ride to the nearest on-ramp. I mean I should have been mad at them at the time, but I was just so thankful to be released and out of their jail. But it was early morning now, and my night of horror was over. And I hitch-hiked out of town, just a little more convinced in my spirit that this world's police aren't as righteous as some might suspect. The only true justice or judgment comes from the Lord, and it's to Him we should confess our sins. And it’s from Him that we finally get absolution from our sins and vindication for our actions here. He will judge and bless righteously. And now thinking back I’m so glad I didn’t confess to what I didn't do. I wasn't one of the Canada's Ten Most Wanted Criminals.
