Mary Magdalene was a 'Prostitute' Because many Christians want to deny that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, and that she was the 'woman caught in adultery', let me try to suggest to you that she was a great sinner in her own eyes and in the eyes of the Scribes and Pharisees, the past and present religious leaders. But to make these connections in history about Mary Magdalene's previous occupation, I can't spoon fed you, with exact verses, but you will have to see it for yourself, and under-stand it for yourself from common sense, worldly experiences, and scriptures. Some church Christians try to infer that Mary Magdalene was a goodly woman or others seem to think she came from the upper class or was a High Priestess of a heathen temple, but no where in the Bible does it suggest that she came from the upper echelon of society, no where. It distinctly says she had seven evil spirits.... that obviously were cast out by the Lord. (SEE Luke 8:2) Where did she get these evil spirits, it doesn't say, but if you know about sexuality and making love for money, you should be able to comprehend where they might have come from. And you have to admit that Mary Magdalene was considered a horrible sinners in the eyes of the Scribes and Pharisees. Luk 7:37-39 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a SINNER, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed [them] with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. Why did these evil religious leaders, not want Jesus to even touch her, because they in their self righteousness though she had touched others sexually and was impure. For what do they consider the worst sin of all, even today ? Yes.. SEX. So was she a prostitute known by them and others ? But wait a minute, you might be saying, no where does it say that this women who washed Jesus feet with her tears and dried them with her hair was Mary Magdalene. Well, Yes it does infer that because as Jesus said, she was foreshadowing his death with her annointing of his feet. Mark 14:8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. And who was there at the Cross, and who was going to the tomb to annoint the Lord's body, only to find that her master and Lord had arisen.... Mary Magdalene. Mark 16: 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. Are you catching the connections ? But now, if you are able to handle it, who was Mary whose sister was Martha, whose brother was Lazarus ? ... John 11:1-2 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. So who was this sweet listening sister of Martha and Lazarus, but the so-calledhorrible sinner that the Scribes and Pharisees hated. (SEE Mary, the sister of Martha). Mary of Martha was the one that had gotten the expensive ointment through prostitution surely) and washed Jesus's feet. Why, because she considered herself the worst of all sinners because she was a prostitute. But the Lord forgave her, which is why she forever loved Him, even to her death. And it is for this reason that Jesus derided the male disciples for their lack of love for Him compared to hers with these classic words. Luke 7:45 - 47 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Mary of Martha, was Mary Magdalene and loved so much because she was forgiven so much by the Lord. She was a prostitute. And it was for this reason, that in the Patriarchial world of the Jesus' Time that she and even the 'good' women were put down by most of the men despite the equality that the Lord taught them. (SEE Equality versus Patriarchy). And hence, the Lord instructed his women disciples as well as the men. (SEE 12 Women Apostles of Jesus ). And Mary Magdalene with the help of Joseph of Armithia did great a great work in evangelising the world by establishing a missionary base in Glastinbury, England (SEE Church History and King Arthur) And so who did the Scribes and Pharisees watch and catch in the act of adultery. (John 8) I would suggest to you that it was Mary Magdalene. For in my opinion from scriptures and history, Mary Magdalene was not from the hierarchy or a synagogue girl of high esteem. She was from what the self-righteous deemed the lowest of the low. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, somebody that sold their body for money as everyone else was doing, except under different pretenses. (SEE Is Prostitution Right ?) And it was she who seemed to love Jesus the most, because Mary Magdalene knew how much Jesus had forgiven her for, it was Jesus who brought her brother back from the dead. So no wonder, Mary spent the rest of her life serving her Lord all the way to the end. God bless Mary Magdalene and all women (and men) that love the Lord of Lords and all that give their lives for Him. the first shall be last, and the last first. and whoever is forgiven much, LOVES MUCH.
