David Jay Jordan's The Importance of Understanding Because people tend to put down understanding of the Lord's principles behind their emotional response to what happens to them, maybe it should be mentioned how important UNDERSTANDING was to JESUS. If you listen to the gospels, over and over again, the Lord asks his disciples. 'Have you never read?' 'What think ye?' and especially 'Do you understand?' Why, because without understanding what the Lord is truly saying his disciples will miss what the Lord was getting at. His truths aren't always on the surface or superficial for we are suppose to learn depth so we can see in the Spirit and not just in the Flesh……and this takes understanding !! And this has everything to do whether or not we receive his WORDS…… as in the parable of the SOWER and it has to do with our understanding...... Hear ye therefore the parable of the SOWER Mat 13:19 - 25 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it, which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. So if we don't understand the WORD and understand it deeply we aren't going to be good ground, but can actually be labeled as shallow, superficial ground according to the Lord himself. I mean, the Lord's first commandment has to do with our minds as well, because His first law is… Luke 10:25 Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? ……. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy MIND and thy neighbour as thyself. And if any need further reinforcement that we are suppose to use our God-given minds to understand the Lord's WORD then read prophecy where if we don't understand, Jesus says we will fail, Dan 11: 32 But the people that do know (a personal direct relationship with) their God shall be strong, and do exploits And they that UNDERSTAND among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed. For it says elsewhere that the wicked shall NOT understand but we will understand what's happening through the Lord's prophetic words. For again if we are to fulfill Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever....we will have to understand Jesus's words. We can't pretend that magical knowledge will come to us without effort or without engaging our God-given brains, for he has instructed us to 'Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened and ask and it shall be given.' So if we don't seek, knock, or ask, it has to be said that we probably won't learn. For how can we get faith unless we 'Hear the word of God, and study and go over it in out hearts and minds. We have to " 2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word So let's not be ashamed and not be afraid to engage our MINDS in the Lord's words. In my opinion and according to scriptures Jay Davidjayjordan@yahoo.com |
