    After signing pages of waivers, I was permitted to descend a gold mine in Virginia, South Africa. Top left picture is the cable for the elevators.
     The heat was unbelievable 1.5 km below the earth's surface (top, right). After placing explosives in the holes, all workers were vacated to the surface. After everyone was accounted for, below was detonated and the fragments hauled up.
     After pouring the gold in molds (left), I was permitted to take a bar home...just kidding...stupid tight security :)
