Jim's Sonnet
Ere I depart this life for other realms
Desire burns -- I first would quench the flame
Before it takes me down and overwhelms
And leaves me blind and deaf and dumb and lame
I see his face -- so fair, so strong, so kind
His scent still lingers only to torment
His voice surrounds me, echoes in my mind
I long to touch and taste and be content
I beg to end as prey to lupine paws
Abducted to a warm and wanton nest
To touch the roughened edge of sturdy jaws
And steal from them what always was the best
I would taste just once and say I'd kissed
Ere I expire knowing what was missed
