He stared at the letter clutched in his large hand. He'd been
active many years; a lot of funny, strange, and poignant notes
had come across the scarred surface of his roll-top desk.
Though time-consuming, he read every one. Most of them asked
for something, but this one was different.

The paper was expensive bond, the writing elegant though
somewhat florid. Its contents gave him pause, for he had never
seen a letter like it.

"Dear Santa,

"It has come to my attention that you possess many talents
useful in my line of work. Your ability to track people and
their doings could prove mutually beneficial. If you're
interested, I can be reached at the following number:
(202) 555-3825."

The signature was illegible, but he didn't need to decipher it.
The stench of stale cigarette smoke was enough to identify its
author.

Without another thought, he consigned the letter to the open
fire.
