The Legend of Haunted Devil's Canyon

The Hanging Tree

Devil winds course through crevasse and dyke
Gales moan through skeletal trees upon which ravens roost
Cumulous monstrosities glide across the moon
'Round every corner, another ghoulish swoon...

There in the distance, The Hanging Tree...

Heart pounding harder at the frightful grim sight
Was that a shadow upon the boughs
A swaying carcass upon gloomy heights
A trick of the eyes or a long-past woe
A morbid convulsion, a ravenous feast
A rapacious leaving for some horned beast...

There in the distance, The Hanging Tree...

The roots of the tree burrow to Hell
A blighted spot, a tale to tell
The body wind chime, a desolate scene
There a form dangles, looming in grisly demise
A face scarred in horror looks over to see
Your face in the window so shocked as you flee...

There in the distance, The Hanging Tree...

Branches stretch forth, seeking to grasp
Tendril-like offshoots, pitchforks and prongs
Entwining tentacles, suffocating limbs reach
The tremulous onlooker who stayed far too long...

There in the distance, The Hanging Tree...

...It is said that when one travels along in Devil's Canyon, there is a phantom hanging tree that is spotted with a body dangling from its twisted boughs...
