What MIGHT Have Been Said About The New Chapel

This article is a collection of quotes referring to the proposed new chapel that I MIGHT have overheard-that's not a certainty (but is anything really? Not according to Hume if you're speaking of something outside yourself.), but there is a pretty good chance I heard people say these things.

I'd like to preface the main point of this article by pointing out a few things. First, did anyone besides me notice that DBU conveniently happened to announce the building of the new chapel on the day when several high school and junior college counselors were present? I'm sure that's not a coincidence. It's not that I'm opposed to impressing counselors, but the date of the announcement may have been chosen for the purpose of giving the counselors the impression that DBU a)has enough money for the new chapel and b)this will be a big step forward for the campus. While point b could turn out to be true, anyone who thinks a is correct must be kidding himself or herself. It's not that I'm opposed to building a chapel, either; I think it'd be nice to have one seeing as DBU is a religious school and the chapel would definitely see much use. What I am opposed to is the building of this chapel for an extravagant price when the school has other problems which need to be fixed more than a new chapel needs to be built. I've lost count of the people who left or were deterred from coming to DBU because of a lack of adequate funding; why don't we put more money into scholarship funds? It took me half an hour to be able to post this article tonight because of the (consistently) poorly functioning internet across campus; why can't we spend a little money on that? I think this preface has gone on long enough; here is the reason you all clicked on the link:

Brooke Wills MIGHT have said, after singing through "Sanctuary" four times, "They don't want us to BE the sanctuary, they want us to PAY FOR the sanctuary."

When Adam Wright said that the chapel would be a holy place, Jonathan Brandon MIGHT have said, "Is this one defiled?", a question to which JP Abel and Stephanie Brasher MIGHT have replied, "Well, you know the kinds of things security has caught people doing here..."

After hearing the location of the new chapel, Will Childers MIGHT have said, "I can't wait till that hill caves in."

Upon hearing that it would overlook the lake, John Waldrip MIGHT have said, "Good, we'll be able to watch the dead bodies floating to the top."

When plans were revealed for a steeple standing at 180 ft. and visible from the highway, the ENTIRE STUDENT BODY MIGHT have said, "Well, we suppose that's better than the atrocity on Spence."

An insider MIGHT have let me in on some information concerning funding, as well. According to this source, although professors have never been asked to donate money to any new construction on campus before, they were asked to donate to the chapel. The reason for this is apparently so that DBU presents a united front and can say to potential donors, "Our staff has already given so much; everyone supports this."

This seems to be the opinion of the student body so far, but of course comments, questions, challenges, and more insider info are always more than welcome at dbusnipe@yahoo.com.
