Doris' Bike Page
The study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniture
study of the art of rationality itself. Working on a motorcycle, working well, caring, is
to become part of a process, to achieve an inner peace of mind. The motorcycle is
primarily a mental phenomenon. |

Ein Limerick von Volki (StressPress):
Drei Moppetthexen aus Hungen
Die haben am Feuer gesungen
Der Zeltplatz lag wach
Die ganze Nacht
Das war ihnen wieder gelungen |
Welcome all bikers and motorcycle interested folks!
On these pages you can meet the motorcyclist part of me: what I like about it, the
bikes I've ridden, and some tour reports and travelling stories.
If I had to classify my riding style, the phrase "tourer" would probably
describe it most closely. I am also very interested in mechanics (fixing, at least trying
to) and off-road biking (trial, enduro-touring, trail-riding). Although I participated in training
courses, I am not practicing much for there's no place around where I live
where one could go to play. One event has become a regular habit, though: EnduRoMania!
Aside from "normal" motorcycling I have discovered the fun of side-car riding
- more on this in the XT 500 and TDM sections.
Also see some side-cars pics I took at the Eurogespanntreffen 1998.
I collect bike models of the bikes I have (had) and the occational odd one or really nice one. The side-car models can be seen here (description in German).
Other motorcycle related links are on my link page.
Aktuelles:
- BMW F 650, 1995
die "eierlegende Wollmilchsau": good, reliable for touring, small enough for city, fun enough for corner blasting
- Yamaha FZS 1000 Fazer, 2003
the get-me-quick-to-where-i-want-to-be-bike. I don't want to waste the F650 on those Autobahn-miles. And, yes, it does save some time to go faster.
- HU-Yamaha TDM 850 side-car, 2001
das "Abenteuer-Vehikel": Safari-Touring, Pair-Riding, all sorts of adventourous undertakings...
- Yamaha XT 500 with and without side-car, 1981
one for the heart: the perfect machine, a wonderful one-cylinder, fun to work on (and always something to fix), winter riding, and the ultimate kick if normal riding seems to be boring
- Honda TLR 200 Reflex, 1992
das "Spazier-Rad": easy-going cross country "let's go and have fun", trail riding at its best

For two short periods I shared bikes with their actual owner:
- a 1984 Yamaha XJ 900: + great
touring bike (even two up and camping gear), + reliable + quick, + comfortable for tall
riders, - too tall for me
(info in German)
- and a BMW R 80/7: + looks nice, + is a classic, -
bad shaft drive reaction (scary in corners!)
Before the real motorcycles, I rode around on
- a Hercules Supra 4 Enduro Mokick (49cc) in 1985,
1 cylindre 2-stroke engine, 2,2 Kw (3 PS) at 4750 r/min., maximum power:4,8 Nm at 4000
r/min., aircooled, kickstarter, 4 gears, topspeed: 40 kph
- a 1968 or 1969 Kreidler Florett RS(?) (49cc) from 1983 to 1985,
(check out the Kreidler page in NL, Kreidler-Verein in D, and Kreidler Florett Museun for details on models
and more)
- and a early 70ies Garelli Bonanza 25 Mofa (50cc) 1980 to 1983.
1,6KW/2,2 PS, orange/elfenbein
(article in Motalia 130, a
few pictures on a German page, and a bit more, and all there is in German)
