Daihatsu Hi-Jet, Suzuki Super-Carry & Kia Towner
These tiny vans are so cool. I saw alot of them in the PI and thought one of them would make for a great party van. I'm not sure how many Balikbayan boxes it can carry but I know that it has the capacity to fit at least 8 people. Sure it's slow having only a 44 bhp engine, but speed isn't necessary in the city. High-speed roll-over is a likely danger but mitigated by the fact that it travels slow. The agility of this car is incredible. Having both a short wheelbase and short length, coupled w/ a front cab design, makes this van ideally suited for city traffic and parking.
It's a very practical vehicle indeed. My only concern is the engine. However, w/ proper maintenance and the use of Redline synthetic motor oil, it should do ok. You just have to watch the cornering and ease up on the pedal.
If I ever did own one, I'd probably just add a pair of Motorola Talk-About radios to communicte b/w the driver and the shoppers/passengers. Also a color television w/ VCR for waiting in traffic. A 12 volt cooler for drinks and sandwiches. An alarm system for when its unattended. Finally, tinted glass all around the back to help w/ the heat and also to provide privacy when sleeping or changing. It's ideal for Balikbayans considering the number of people that it'll have to carry. Great for shopping and trips to the beach.
