CD REVIEWS - BLUES ON THE SLIDE:
BLUES MATTERS UK ISSUE 16 NOV 2003: DAVE AUSTIN - "Blues On The Slide".
The album opens with a cracking version of Johnny Winter's "Evil On My Mind", featuring tasty slide & foot stomping. "Radiator Blues" is one of two originals. A jazzy instrumental, "You Gotta Swing", displays Dave's guitar skills. Other standout tracks are Furry Lewis' "Mean Old Bedbug Blues" & an instrumental of Ry Cooder's "Always Lift Him Up". Dave Austin plays & sings straight from the soul. The sound quality is excellent. Any agents and promoters out there should check him out and bring him to the UKÉ.Dave Drury
"OUTSTANDING CD! Haven«t heard such good music in a long time" E Albrecht, Bluespower, ok:radioÊGermany 2002.
Like John Lee Hooker's early recordings, this is a solo performance of a man singing, playing guitar and stomping his foot. The style is everything like the rural American south that it honors. The songs are delivered in a patient and melodic style, brightly played by this lowlands master from down under.' T Schulte Outsight Radio DETROIT USA Jan 2003
"I could listen to 'Dave' play his resophonic all day... gee it is sweet" Sydney Blues Society 2000
