Letter to Canadian Minister Pierre Pettigrew

The World Trade Organization (WTO) met in Cancun for a Ministerial meeting from September 10-14, 2003. The trade talks broke down on the last day of the meetings, leaving the WTO organization to question its legitimacy. Nonetheless, Librarians Against the WTO would like Minister Pettigrew to know exactly how librarians feel about the WTO / GATS and its threat to publicly-funded libraries. We have written a letter and we would love to have as many librarians and friends of libraries to mail, email or fax it to Mr. Pettigrew. Simply copy and paste the letter into a word processing document or an email message. Thanks to all who will make this small effort to make our concerns known!

WTO's in town? – Shut it down!

WTO protest: July 2003 MontrealLibrarians Against the WTO met up in Montreal for a family-friendly march (organized by the Popular Mobilization Against the WTO in Montreal) in opposition to a mini-ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that was held in Montreal from July 28 - 30. At this meeting, an exclusive group of trade ministers met to engineer a successful outcome at a larger WTO ministerial to be held in September in Cancun, Mexico. Thanks to all those librarians that came out for the protest! (Photo courtesy of MMN)
