My fathers' condition, though recently diagnosed, has been deteriorating for about 5 years. Now we are in the position of caring for him and dealing with this terrible disease. He is at home now, but this may change as my mother, who herself is in her 60's, could become overcome with caring for him. I would welcome any advice, tips or hints that will help us try to deal with this situation. Likewise, I would try to help anyone else who finds themself in this situation. Comments: I am 48 years old and lost my husband who was 54 years of age to "early onset Alzheimers disease" in January of this year (1997), I cared for him at home for the entire length of the disease. My father who is 79 years old has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My step mother insists on keeping him home but will do nothing that his doctor has advised her to do to keep him at home. She lets him go for a week at a time without bathing. If he says he doesn't want anything to eat she leaves it at that.
