First time clients will be asked to fill out a short client information sheet, and we will discuss any issues that are of concern, including chief complaint and location of pain, areas of stress and any past history that may be the cause:  including operations, injuries, broken bones, whiplash, traumas.  If you have any of the following:  high or low blood pressure, any known blood clots, heart concerns, arthritis or bursitis, migranes, headaches, parasites, lower or upper backaches.  If you have any known allergies, tightness in the jaw/TMJ, carpal tunnel, skin problems, injuries or scars, contagious disease or aids.

In terms of what to expect during a massage therapy session, they generally are an hour in length.  Clients are usually asked to remove as much clothing as one is comfortable with and rest between the sheets and light blankets on a padded massage table.  I will step out and wash my hands, while you settle on the table either face up or down, depending on our discussion and your needs.  Please feel free to express any thing that will make your time most comfortable.  Examples are more blankets and volume of the music.

Whether or not you would expect to talk during a session depends on your need at the time.  Some clients need to talk.  Some need silence.  I will try to accommodate what the client needs.  However, sometimes talking detracts from entering a state of relaxation or experiencing the physical or nonverbal dimensions of the massage.  In any case, feel comfortable giving feedback about your needs and what you like or do not like during the session.  Good communication enhances the massage session.

I use a high quality oil and lotion, but if you have an allergic response you should let me know.  It is best not to have eaten just before a session.  If for any reason you must miss a massage appointment,  I will surely appreciate being notified as soon as possible.

Post massage, it is best to drink plenty and extra water for 3 days so that the kidneys are able to excrete any toxins that have been released into the lymphatic system.  A warm to hot bath in epsom salts is beneficial in increasing circulation and excreting toxins.  A long walk to insure the lymphatic system movement in supporting the detoxification process.
