The DeSoto Lodge Annual Picnic was a huge success at Shelby Farms. As you can see in the photo we had a good crowd, a very good crowd. At our last count, there were 75 adults and children present. The children played to their hearts content in the Moonwalk, which gave the adults plenty of time to mingle. Surprisingly we did run out of hot dogs and hamburgers, but we had enough fish to carry us through. Brother Swayne Merrell, Brother Rick Perkins, and Brother Gene Major did a great job cooking with the supervision of the ladies. The wives and guests brought great side dishes and delicious deserts. We did have horseshoes, badminton and card games for everyone but most just sat around and visited. Congratulations to the Brother Dennis Pope for a job well done in the planning and execution of the picnic.

Recently we had a very tragic and upsetting situation occur. A brother died and no one let anyone at the Lodge know about his death. The Brother's greatest desire was to have a Masonic Funeral. He was so very proud to be a mason. His nearest relative didn't have any money to bury the Brother so the County buried the Brother in a pauper's grave. There was no headstone, just a number. No graveside service. Had it not been for several Brothers being concerned about this Brother and not being able to contact him, we would have never found out he died. We will try to rectify this situation, but please let someone know of your request for a Masonic Service and give them the phone number to the Lodge to contact us. |
The Quarterly Officers' Meeting was held Wednesday, June 26, at 6:30 pm at the Perkins Restaurant. We had a very productive meeting with very good suggestions from the spouses concerning several hot topics. We also had the recommendation that we have a Fall Picnic at the same location. If you would like to have a Fall Picnic please let one of the Officers know or call the Lodge. |
