A MESSAGE FROM...
OUR WORSHIPFUL MASTER...

Brethren,
The second round dues notices have been mailed out along with an information data form insert.   I have been informed that a lot of members are ignoring these dues notices and are not returning the information data sheet.   Brethren, we will not be able to update our records if you do not return these data sheets, and if your dues are not received we will be forced to send out subpoenas.   Mailing out subpoenas will cost us even more money for postage, which is going up everyday.   During a rocky year for investments we need to try and stay within our budget.   So please respond to your notice and please include your completed information data form in the reply envelope.   If you know of a member who has moved and is not receiving their digest please send us their new address or a phone number where we can contact them.   You can email us your information or change of address at info@desotolodge.com.
Brother Robert O. Brock, Jr.'s name was drawn from the Fish Bowl.   The drawing was worth $50, however Brother Brock was not present to win.  The $50 will roll over to the August Stated Meeting making the Fish Bowl Drawing worth $100.   In our Stated Meeting Dinner Drawing Nancy Merrell won the Grand Prize, which was a $50 Gift Certificate to Houston's Restaurant.   Other drawing winners were Joe Martz, PM, Joseph Oxandale, June Hubbard, Marguerite Wilkinson and Elbert Martz, PM.   Our Grand Prize for the August Stated Meeting Dinner Drawing will be a $50 Gift Certificate to Sears.   The theme for our August Stated Meeting Dinner will be an assortment of meats and cheeses for do-it-yourself sandwiches with an accompaniment of deserts.   Suggestions are requested for the September Dinner theme.   We can always use more participants, so please contact the Junior Warden Dennis Pope or the First Lady Mary Cook.
Don't forget Baseball Family Night-Out, which will be held on Saturday, August 17th.   You asked for it and your Entertainment Committee has delivered.   Please check the schedules listed in your Monthly Digest, on the Internet at our website and please pay particular attention to any insert placed in your Monthly Digest.

                                                                                Faternally,
                                                                                Tim Cook, WM

Annual Picnic

The DeSoto Lodge Annual Picnic was a huge success at Shelby Farms.   As you can see in the photo we had a good crowd, a very good crowd.   At our last count, there were 75 adults and children present.   The children played to their hearts content in the Moonwalk, which gave the adults plenty of time to mingle.   Surprisingly we did run out of hot dogs and hamburgers, but we had enough fish to carry us through.   Brother Swayne Merrell, Brother Rick Perkins, and Brother Gene Major did a great job cooking with the supervision of the ladies.   The wives and guests brought great side dishes and delicious deserts.   We did have horseshoes, badminton and card games for everyone but most just sat around and visited.   Congratulations to the Brother Dennis Pope for a job well done in the planning and execution of the picnic.

What happens when you don't tell family or friends !!!

Recently we had a very tragic and upsetting situation occur.   A brother died and no one let anyone at the Lodge know about his death.   The Brother's greatest desire was to have a Masonic Funeral.   He was so very proud to be a mason.   His nearest relative didn't have any money to bury the Brother so the County buried the Brother in a pauper's grave.   There was no headstone, just a number.   No graveside service.   Had it not been for several Brothers being concerned about this Brother and not being able to contact him, we would have never found out he died.   We will try to rectify this situation, but please let someone know of your request for a Masonic Service and give them the phone number to the Lodge to contact us.

Officers Quarterly Meeting

The Quarterly Officers' Meeting was held Wednesday, June 26, at 6:30 pm at the Perkins Restaurant.   We had a very productive meeting with very good suggestions from the spouses concerning several hot topics.   We also had the recommendation that we have a Fall Picnic at the same location.   If you would like to have a Fall Picnic please let one of the Officers know or call the Lodge.

Riverboat Dinner Cruise

The Riverboat Dinner Cruise has been scheduled for Saturday, July 13th at 7:30 pm and our reservations have been turned in and fees paid.   If you have not turned in your reservations and your money, you still have one more chance to go with us.   You may pay the full price of $35 at the gate for the cruise and dinner.   If you have any questions please call the Jr. Warden Dennis Pope at 795-5008 or the Sr. Steward Greg Howard at 639-2678.
