DURAN DURAN
BLITZ KIDS BY NICK RHODES
If there hadn't been a Spandau Ballet then, there couldn't have been new romantics but there could have been a Duran Duran.  We weren't influenced by futurist or new romantic or any of those ugly terms used at the time.  Those terms might be useful for reference but otherwise I've never heard such a load of garbage.  It was something created by the press.
And the record companies weren't so ready to come up to Birmingham and listen to us.  but finally when they did, we ended up a lot better off because we got exactly what we wanted.  We signed for exactly the amount of money we wanted and managed to get control over items like album covers, who producers us, how many records we release a year and so on. We were patient and it paid off,
