Who We Are

For our past, our present, and a vision of the future that lies ahead, We thank you, Lord.

Our parish is a gathered community with a common purpose:

Welcome to the worship community of Christ Anglican Church. We are happy to have you journey with us. This webpage details some information that may be useful in helping you get to know who we are.

Commitment to Inclusion and Accessibility

Christ Church works to reflect what we believe to be the welcome and abundant generosity of God’s banquet table. To this end we continue working to provide a facility and worship that is physically accessible. We also are intentional about embracing the diversity of our community and the integrity of all people regardless of gender, race, age, economic status, physical or mental health, or sexual orientation. Be welcome.

A Brief Word About Anglicanism

The Anglican Church of Canada is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the chief bishop of the Communion, but each national church is governed by the authority of its own councils and bishops. The chief bishop of the Anglican Church of Canada is called the “Primate of All Canada”. Anglicanism has its historic roots in the dynamics of the reformation and counter-reformation of the 16th and 17th centuries in England and Europe. Its ethos reflects the wide diversity of theological thought that emerged from the Elizabethan Settlement. It continues a tradition of “catholic” orders of ministry and worship with “reform” practice and governance. Anglicanism has always been understood to stand on the three pillars of scripture, tradition and reason. Its chief source of identity has always been in its worship and in the ‘catholic creeds’ (Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed) rather than in the obedience to doctrine and confessional statements.

Membership

Baptism is the rite of initiation into the life of Christian community and transcends denominational affiliations. No rite of membership is required to join this church parish; rather you may simply indicate your desire to join the parish by using the form available on one of the visitor’s envelopes on the back of a pew, or by speaking to one of the greeters at the door and indicating your desire to be added to the parish rolls.

At some time in your journey with us you may feel a desire to deepen your affiliation or commitment ritually. If you are not already baptized, we offer preparation and celebration of baptism for all ages. To those already baptized, there is an annual opportunity for the Renewal of Baptismal Vows at the Easter Vigil or Confirmation (the laying on of hands by a bishop) once every three years.

Preparation for baptism, or renewal of baptismal vows, follows a catechetical process of companionship with a sponsor from the congregation. It follows liturgical stages that involve the worshipping community, and study and reflection on biblical texts and traditions which shape our story.

When you are added to the parish rolls you will also be added to the parish mailing list and to the mailing list for the Anglican Journal and Huron Church News (unless you indicate otherwise). The privacy policy of the parish assures your personal information will only be used for these purposes. If you have an unlisted phone number and do not wish it, or your address, to appear on any public list, please indicate this in writing and your request will be honoured.

Financial Contribution

A local congregation is financed primarily through the free-will offering of its members. An annual budget is adopted each year at an annual meeting (vestry meeting) and we depend on the commitment of our membership to help fulfill our obligations. A regular income flow is necessary to pay our bills and maintain the property (copies of the annual budget may be obtained through the parish office). You can assist the parish in this by:

  1. filling out a form for pre-authorized payments from your bank account (all identifiable donations will be receipted for income tax purposes); or
  2. taking offering envelopes which enable you to make weekly contributions and designate monies for particular parts of the parish budget. A collection is made at the weekly services. “Offertory cards” are available for those on the pre-authorized payment plan, or for those whose offering is something other than financial. The gesture of placing an offering card on the collection plate connects your offering with the offering of others.
